    What brought you to Bullshido?

I'm a poster on the Something Awful Forums who posts in the MMA threads in SAS and the Martial Arts thread in Ask/Tell from time to time. I had known about Bullshido for a couple years and visited every once in a while. I found the Ashida Kim story absolutely hilarious, given that I knew a kid who believed his books were real and gave him the ability to be a bad ass. Even still, I was generally content with the discourse about martial arts on SA, given my status as a dilettante.

    Until I read this thread.

Now I, in general, have no issue with TMA practitioners so long as they don't try to force delusions about the effectiveness of their art in a fight on other people. Doing it to have fun? Awesome, more power to you. Doing to study the culture? An odd way to go about it, but so long as you've got a good school it sounds like a decent way to do it. Doing it for physical exercise? Great, I might even join you. But to pretend that kata and shitty conditioning will give you the ability to beat down a boxer, or that, each in their prime, Erine Reyes could beat George Foreman? That's so terribly deluded, and to promote that kind of thinking can give people who train in that way a false sense of security that will get them hurt. I did my part to try and dissuade people from believing that shit, but the thread eventually dissolved into a storm of fakeposting and trolling.

While I'll keep posting on SA for other stuff, I'll stick around here for the martial arts discourse.

So, what brought you to Bullshido?

I was a lurker for quite a while. Mostly in the official MABS forum. I was cracking up SO much that I just HAD to finally register. I guess so I could see all the posts in their entirety (links and all). That... plus I seriously like this site's work on exposing MA frauds. They really DO give the MAs in general a bad name. And they make things more difficult for those that actually DO practice the arts, and work hard doing so. And legitimately train. Usually those guys are either A) lumped in with the frauds. Or B) have to take on former students of these frauds and have to clean up the mess made by them. Not that most instructors would mind that. But it's just a shame that they should have to undo ANY damage done by those ass-clowns.

I've even had the privilege of attending an event put on by an exposed fraud (see the article here). I didn't take part in the actual investigation, but I did get to witness firsthand this fraud in action. And I was happy to report back to this site what I saw. Not to mention I met some pretty decent guys from here. Another privilege, as I see it.

Well, that's pretty much my story. Hope it isn't TOO boring LOL.

Ha ha, Ashida Kim here too. I read his shit as the idiot child of an alcoholic father. I discovered his website in college which led me here quite quickly.

Can't quite remember totally how, I lurked for a long time before registering and finally posting. What really attracted me to the forum was the idea of throwdowns.

I joined because I wanna run some of my own 'practical' ideas here before I accidentally pass them on.

After finally seeing all of the porn, I decided to look and see what else the internet had to offer and I ended up here.
