    Calling BS on noobie "louc4r"

To stop the shitting up of a legit thread discussing relevance of sword training today I started this thread to discuss the retardation of the noob otherwise known here as louc4r

I have been 'sword training' for close to 10 years now, and I feel the skills I have developed whenever I make difficult maneovers in my car on the highway, or when I am empty-hand sparring, etc.

On a more practical note, this morning I picked up a shovel in the backyard and figured out how to work with the balance and the shape of the blade to make it into a pretty good improvised weapon. Next I did the same thing with a handheld garden claw. I feel pretty confident that I could pick up any kind of tool and weild it in self-defense.

The root of many, if not all, Japanese martial arts, and many others besides, is the sword. If you understand the sword, you can understand alot about how these martial arts are aligned, how they were designed, and what their originators may have been intending.

If sword training is impractical, then so is punching focus mitts... How many times have you been attacked by a guy holding focus mitts in the street? How realistic are those 1-2-3 drills? Nonetheless, its easy to see that focus mitt drills can be useful. Its not too hard to think the same of the sword if your 'sword training' is the real thing.

Specific to sword practice (Japanese koryu art in my case) is the waza. Yes its pre-arranged pattern, but in the case of my ryu-ha there are many points within the waza where the practitioner can "make it live" by varying any number of elements - timing, angle of cut, fients, etc. Often these occur in a split second and can only be seen as subtle shifts of body weight, eye direction, etc.

Once you progress past just learning the 'shape' of the waza, the value of repeated waza practice are these 'tweaks' that keep you responsive to the other person. Concurrently, as the waza become more familiar, the practitioners start to do them faster and faster. The combined effect of these 'tweaks' and the increased speed of execution is that you develop the ability to take in, process and respond to your partner at increasingly higher speeds. For the practitioner, it feels like time is slowing down and much more detail is observed than someone doing the waza for the first time.

This skill transfers into all activity of daily living. - Car driving, interacting with others, empty hand sparring.

So.. I'm calling BULLSHIT on Louc4

I want to know who your teacher is, what rank you hold and how long you've been training, where you train and what Ryu-ha.

Who issued you with the title "Kyoshi" after 10 years of training... Ashida Kim?

Yeh, I laughed out loud at some of his comments..

He can read his Japanese "yudansha" certificates, one of which is "Kyoshi" (shogo title meaning master instructor) which, according to him, was presumably issued after 10 years of study and following a sandan grade.

His sad attempt at humour when trying to explain what "islam-silat" was (shown in his style field).. was dire.

Islam-silat is the secret art taught by Osama Bin Laden to his elite terror-samurai. However, after years of training, I am bringing this art to the West so that we can fight the terrorists with their own art. DVD coming soon

There you go, my good man... the miscreant joins in quite late, but makes up for his tardiness with blatant cock-facery.
