Why is it so difficult to accept that Wing Chun is essentially an untested and over-theorised style?

I don't know what you're missing, I'm still missing the large video thread showing countless victories of all you -un-haters against -un people.
One thing is a fact: there's no -un in UFC or Pride and very little realistic videos on the (w)ingternet /(c) by Virus/.
However that shouldn't stop you (not necessarily and personally you, DAYoung) from taping and posting any number of videos of you beating up -un people.
How about that?

This is the crux of the problem. With "styles" comes a whole lot of baggage, including more often than not training culture. So I bet the answer is "no", I'd be astonished if the averager chunner could suddenly jump into a boxing ring and do anything aside from embarass themselves, sorry if that sounds prejudice but truthfully, how many Chunners train remotely like someone entering a boxing match in terms of intensity, contact and fitness? Few if any.

I agree, except I would add: "With 'styles' that are out of balance due to not using the venue of competition to showcase them ..."


Also, I'd be willing to speculate a little that perhaps the "average" person training boxing (that includes all the people some don't consider as training "t3h r3@l" boxing) could be be similarly embarrassed if they also entered into a legitimate boxing match. (I'll admit it also appears to me the percentage who would be embarrassed in a similar situation might be lower than for the "chunner".)

So, the full question with regards to the training regimen here is whether a "chunner" would have to change his regimen significantly to the point where it would not be recognizable as the "chunner" regimen. If he/she decided to compete at even a regional level, would they have to do that, or would they just have to augment with more general physical preparedness (GPP) work, up their training intensity, and concentrate on a few specific areas of his/her regimen.


Again, it would be nice if these things could be determined objectively. Unfortunately, I don't see this happening at least until the 'nun-who-must-not-be-named' style is beaten down mercilessly and it undergoes a rather large contraction of its presence (read: its inflated ego) in the MA community - particularly within the fighting segment of the MA community.

As has been countless times on this site, you don't prove a negative. There's no reason to do what you're asking. There's not really much of any reason for most people to prove that wing tsun DOES work either, but there is far less for anyone to try and prove that it doesn't. It's unproven and theory based, and that is grounds enough for writing off the style.
