That's correct. Fighters that can't afford to stay at striking range and have to bank on punching through and getting close. There's nothing wrong with that, UNLESS, like in case of _ing _un that is all you have got.

Wait, why did I get drug into this one? Why did you bring me up?

Besides, I would only point out two things in the video Tomas posted (since the one you posted is pretty certainly a fake). #1, as Kid already said, overwhelming the opponent (which is one of the things I believe _ing _un sets out to attempt to do) is what really helped win the fight for whoever was in the black pants. Is this a good thing to try? I think so, but I'd also point out that boxers do not follow that idea (until maybe after they've clearly established their control of the ring). Judo, for other reasons that should also be clear to anyone, does not follow that idea either. BJJ has an entirely different idea as well ("position over submission", not "do 50 submissions and one will work when the other guy gets confused"). But as Kid already said, it does seem to work, especially against less experienced fighters.

The #2 thing is that the guy in black established himself very early, and the other fighter simply never got over the mental hurdle that he was about to take a beating. This is the same thing that happened in that other old "_ing _un vs. kickboxing" clip. Did "skill" or "technique" or "style" win for the guy? IMHO, not nearly as much as simple aggression and early dominance. Would someone with a lot of ring experience respond the same way to a bunch of forward pressure and a hail of fists? Probably not. Does one or two videos of a _ing _un guy actually "winning", against someone whose skill level we have no idea of, mean everyone should incorporate it into their training? Um...

P.S. Now please let me escape this thread that I didn't even want to get involved in, unless, of course, one of the things I said above is completely retarded. :new_popco

I think Wing chung should get revenge on Kyokushin then take on Muay Thai and Sanda and beomce known as the ultimate striking art.

LOL, you're "so and so martial art doesn't do that" idea is totally retarded. The martial art gives you techniques, you and your coach make the strategy. It's funny that you should say "boxing doesn't do that" when I just said that most amateur level fighters (which includes boxers) do this... just because it's the obvious thing to do as an amateur. It's not pretty and it's not technical and against a really skilled and technical opponent you'll get countered into oblivion, but it is one of the most successful way of winning fights at the lower levels of amateur fighting. I guess the fact that wing chun stresses aggressively pressing forward is good and all, but it's hardly something for a style to pride itself in and it's absurd to call the idea "unique". It's not "stressed" in competitive styles because it's "amateurish".

Let me get this straight. They have a television program where the pit ordinary people with little or no boxing experience against professional boxers? The depravity of tv never ceases to amaze. Well it's time for me to go play Grand Theft Auto San Andreas.

Yeah, it was posted in the videos section actually. Jones totally could've turned that guys lights out in seconds but decided to play around with him instead.

The idea is to see which joe can do the best against the pros. They had one with Randy couture also. They have pros from lots of different sports.

Oh you bully. That video doesn't count because the other guy was secretly wearing a metal spine plate which made the anti-grapple not work. And they were fighting on mats, not on the streets. On the streets it would be different because there could be glass.

And btw that's not real WT. Only my school has real WT.

I wish people would stop bringing up this video as proof wing chun sucks. That guy did the wrong _ing _un lineage, the one that didn't spar and base itself on reality. Oh wait..that's all of them.

Real _ing is supposed to be a system that deals with the range between striking and grappling. (as a side note, aikido was supposed to deal with the range between grappling and the ground) and you are supposed to cross train it with other arts. That way, if you actually learn to fight you can plausibly pass off the lie that hours of chi-sao, forms and slap drills had something to contribute towards that.

People tend to forget what the real _ing was intended for, including all of the grandmasters of the art, and the people that invented it, and a lot of other schools...well..all the other schools except mine...and a few of the students there...well, all the students except me, but my roommate has been doing kickboxing for two weeks and I do pretty well against him during pillow fights.

Seriously: Wing Chun pretty much trolls itself.
