Definently. Female singers, rappers, movie stars, and even fuckin video game players whoring themselves out to get attention is nothing new, but I never thought I'd see the same thing happen to BJJ. If female MMA actually gets off the ground and goes the same route I'm giving up on society. More so anyway.

Does no one else see irony in the fact that this thread, for a scant few posts, was about women's equality in grappling and then immediately devolved into "Kyra Gracie is hot." "Yeah, I'd seriously bust one in her hair."

I've seen some thund'rously stupid stuff on this forum, but this kind of olde-tyme sexism is far and away the pervasive, idiotic, and genuinely offensive crap I've ever encountered. Congratulations.

I don't fucking care about your approval. I'm not even affected by this. There's about three girls training at my academy and two of them are white belts. The issue here is that none of you lonely jerksmiths can go a single thread without blurting BOYS HAVE PENIS/GIRLS HAVE VAGINA. When the topic is anything else in the world (and I do mean anything else), it's a mildly irritating thread derailment. When the topic is "should women be able to compete in grappling alonside men without getting sexually harassed", a question with an answering so transparent that in the year 2007 shouldn't even be a question, it goes beyond stupid and into offensive.

I mean god damn. Look at you fucking people. You're grown men. Some of you have kids. And yet when the notion of women grappling comes up, immediately, IMMEDIATELY there's a massive deluge people talking about their masturbation habits, pictures of half-dressed women, and oh yes, this insidiously clever double entendre where you say "I like to roll with women ;)" and it's just so funny and sharp.

Unless you're fourteen, in which case this is totally normal and acceptable.

Put another way: if I couple lump the posters in this thread with any sort of movie bad guy, it'd be the coal miners in North Country. Not because I think that movie did anything for women's rights; because I can honestly see a lot of people here developing a Pavlovian sort of reflex where they hear "WOMEN-IN-THE-MINE" and think "PUT-DILDO-IN-LUNCHBOX"

Boyd is on the ball enough that it's got me feeling defensive about the fact that I did make a masturbation comment -- albeit in the context that wank potential is the selling point of those videos, not detail of instruction. Still, it would be nice for women to not walk into these threads (or jiu jitsu schools) and feel totally unclean.

We have a handful of women at both schools that I train at and I make it a real point, both to work with them and to make them feel like there's a place for them (guess what? There is) in our training environments.

Although people have tried to do all-female jiu jitsu classes, I haven't seen them work that well, with one notable exception. As such, it's crossed my mind to have invitation-only classes that are open to women, but restricted to guys who don't give them the willies. I wonder if it would make sense to try an online equivalent.

Good post, but I don't think that is the topic. I think the topic is are these girls serious about what they're doing (BJJ/MMA) or are they - ::whispers:: or whatever company actually hired them - just capitalizing on their looks to flog product out the door as MMA poster girls.

The conclusion appeared to be that because they're pretty and blonde and wrote back a nice email response to El Macho - ::whispers:: or whoever answers the email in reality - that clearly they are really just struggling naive foreign students pursuing their american dream to fund their college attendance who happened to accidentally create the wrong impression with the manly fraternity of BJJ players.

                cheers

Boyd, I think it prudent to point out that as this is the YMAS forum the responses you are taking a stance against are almost expected - it is NOT the serious discussion forum so that is why it has degenerated into a "Kyra Gracie is red hot" fest

Ergo most postings are meant to be pseudo offensive and the objections are somehwat unwarranted.

I rather give them the benefit of the doubt that they are inded a buch of "naive" students trying to push their clothing line via a sport-like gimmick, in this case BJJ/MMA. And I say "naive" in quotation marks because it's naive of them to think people would have applauded/accepted them in sherdog with their "hey pple, we are girls and fans of MMA. Look at our grappling clips."

Fact of the matter, sex sells. And by sex, I don't mean porno, but simply the difference of gender. Guy watches. Girl knows... and sometimes uses it to her advantage (just in the same way that sometimes men in a position of power abuse it.) They know that the gimmick of two female fans of grappling can grab attention, and they intend to use it to push their business, just like any other fucking business and/organization from Coca Cola and Trojan to Club 700.

And kudos to them that they are pushing something everyone can talk about (a clothing line) rather than "girls grappling in oil" or some other shit. As a matter of fact, it is clever if we stop to think about it.

Hopefully, though, they will have a better understanding of the MMA/BJJ audience to avoid another sherdog-like clusterfuck.

Futhermore, I hope they now understand that there are women who actually grapple, sweat and bang on the mat just like men do (and just like any other women in soccer, gymanstics, bodybuilding or whatever sport.) At the very least, they have been educated on this, perhaps not in a way they would have wanted, but at least they have been.

How they get treated in the future will be determined by their future actions while pursuing their American dream in MMALand.

-- Insert random masturbatory joke on blonde chics with nice bubbly asses for shit and giggles. --

-- ED -- keep neg repping Shuma, whatever rocks your e-boat.

And someone who was really smart and opportunistic would hire the two of them as front models to exploit that "sex sells" fact and maybe they're not making much more than modelling fees (and a paid membership to GB for the warm-up sessions they attend).

Yep, pretty much. And now, that's my conclusion assuming the response I got from them (or from someone) is true.

And if it isn't, then oh well, more material for politically incorrect (read masturbatory) jokes.

I agree with boyd. Sex is rude. So is talking about it. If only those poor girls didn't have people attracted to them.

                          Inane smug rants FTW!

Chicks will exploit their looks to gain popularity in the sport. There aren't a lot of people who are really into watching women's MMA, so to gain interest they show a little skin. I guess it kinda sucks because it promotes the whole "hurr hurr, I'd like to test her triangle!" thing, but it's the way to be successful on the hill of beans that is female fighting. Now, that doesn't excuse you guys for falling for it! PIGS!
