I don't know, the first one kind of reminded me of Best of the Best. I always wondered if there were any real karate competitions that looked like that. Now all they need to add is fighting in cowboy hats.

I think satisfaction derived from these videos is basically the same principle as people who like "Constatine." It was better than what you might expect, given the subject matter. Doesn't necessarily have to be fantastic.

Constantine was based on Hellblazer, one of the best comics of all time, and should have been a far different movie. It's a miricle they didn't murder the material even worse, but it was still only about 5% of what it could have been.

Peter Stormare was still badass though.

Is it fashionable for comicbook geeks to whine at every opportunity or something nowadays?

This is the same attitude displayed by fucking LARPing Chunners - "No! Don't change anything! It's always been done this way, it's good this way, it was always intended to be this way!"

Tough shit! The film was based on the book, it was not a cinematic realisation of it. It was changed by the film makers in order to make it better for the use they had for it, and it worked. I don't see anyone whining about BJJ having changed from its base in Judo, same fucking principle applies.

Calm down Iscariot. I see what you mean. I hate it when a good movie based on a book comes along and everybody jumps at the chance to say how it wasn't true to the book blah blah blah. But this is different, this wasn't a good movie.

Actually it was, at least in the same analogy I'm using. The Film industry exists to make money, Constantine made more money than Hellblazer ever did. It succeeded. You don't have to like it, in fact the comicbook crowd aren't the target audience for any of the recent films based on comics.

For the record, I despised the revisionism of making John an American. I thought Reeves did well in the role on screen, though I understand from friends that the character was nothing like the John from the book. I thought Rachel Wiez was mediocre and not even all that pretty. I enjoy Stomare's top form as usual and enjoyed the androgynous portral of Gabriel. The soundtrack was very nice as well. That said I thought there was a lot more that could have been done based only on what I got from the movie, the comic I'm told has much greater depth.

I do empathise, my favourite book was ruined in its adaptation. But the blame and the petty whining should not be aimed at the film makers, it should be aimed at the person who sold the rights - which more often than not is the creator of the subject matter who fans tend to deify.

The ninja turtle film adaptations were pretty cool so I'm thankful for that.

Actually, comic book authors almost never own the rights to their stuff, it belongs to the company. Alan Moore owns almost non of his stuff, and was pretty vocal about hating all the shitty movies that have been made from it.

I reserve the right to bitch at all times.

                            Not even close you dolt!

Comic book movies are made for the FANS of the book because without them it would never be there. Its understandable for filmmakers to change things due to pacing, special fx, etc but when they totally screw things up then its not right and we have a right to bitch. Thats way generally Comic book movies tank at the box office. The exceptions are if the movie is from an extremely popular franchise, such as X-Men and Spiderman, or its very well made, such as Blade.

As for pple whining about BJJ then you obviously haven't been paying close attention. There are several boards where pple bitch that BJJ has become to "sport" and away form its traditional roots. Still its not the same thing as with CB movies.
