Yo! New to martial arts and to bullshido! BLING!

    Hey everyone!!

I got sick of that bulletin on the top of the forums telling me to introduce myself, so I have finally decided to do so.

My name is har and I've just recently started taking private Muay Thai lesson. I love every minute of it, even when my teacher makes me pain through some of his 3 minutes drills (i've pretty much cut out my basic cardio routine and added these drills). So soon in the future I'm sure you all will see me bombard the forums with all sorts of questions about Muay Thai!

    Looking forward to contributing soon!

        hey thanks!

Wing Tsun eh? Is that like Wing Chun? My teacher also specializes in that (he studied it for 20 years!) and eventually wants to start incorporating Wing Chun into our Muay Thai. It doesn't seem for me though, as I like the exhausting and tiring nature of training in Muay Thai

Ooh-ooh, this is getting exciting! RunningDog is here too, but more importantly, if I get it right, you wrote that your Muay Thai teacher studied W.C. for 2 decades and is trying to incorporate wing chun into muay thai?
          Sounds interesting...
Does he also teach wing chun? If not, when and why did he stop? Can you tell us anything more specific about him/it? A website, maybe?

Oh dear. Oh dear oh dear. As soon as your teacher does that, you'll be wanting to find a new school. MT is just fine as it is.

Spastic MT. Awesome. Add some retard strength into the equation and you get one hard-as-nails player. Doormen and 'special forces' around the world will be clamouring for it.

_ing _un is just what the sick men of asia renamed muay thai after they stole it from the thais anyway, then diluted it down to the pussy slap bitch fest that it is today.

why are you doing private lessons? muay thai is a group thing and mostly about repetition, which hardly requires private lessons to do

                    hey thanks for the replies!

As for the inquiries about my teacher, he does not have a website or even a lot of advertising. He used to work in a restaurant that my roommate works in. He offered private lessons for 20 an hour just for the enjoyment of the arts, not so much as to make money. He teaches it in his garage. He has taken wing chun for 20 years, Muay Thai (i forgot how long) and BJJ for a few years. He is amazing at all of them! My roommate and I take Muay Thai, and my friends within the restaurant take BJJ.

As for the cross training, he believes that all of his students should train in one art and stick with it for a while so that they get proficient at that art. Eventually he wants all of his students to branch off into the other arts when they are ready (however, it isn't required that we do so. I don't think my friends want to branch off from BJJ as they are having way too much fun with it.) He says that my roommate and I are progressing quite well (my roommate has had a few years of TKD.) He says he is going to teach us the basic drill, movements, footwork, etc... but basically since I always have my roommate available for sparring, there is only so much he needs to teach us outside of what we can practice once we buy all the padding. He says he wants to branch us off when we feel like all we are doing is conditioning drills and it starts to feel old.

I hope that gave you all some more background info on myself! He is the only teacher within the area that teaches Muay Thai (that I know of) and I absolutely love it - which answers Alex's question of why I take the private lesson. I definitely will keep with it for as long as I can. My friends have taught me some BJJ and I've lightly sparred with them and absolutely LOVE it! I would love to be able to take Muay Thai more often , or even Capoeira (which is only offered in the city). However, since he is the only teacher I know within reason of where I live (not including NYC which I do not have the schedule for), I will take the lesson - not to mention he has sparked my interest in the Martial Arts in the first place so I feel kind of loyal ;-)

just remember that until you join a real gym that has a stable of fighters you are probably never going to progress much past flailing noob. if you are serious about it then finding a less backwards town which has a gym might be in order.
