    WTF?? Larpers and Respect

Obviously, I frequent this place a lot. Take a look at my post count.

Yes, this is a no holds bared blah blah blah.

Can someone explain the "you must respect me," spouted by Kung Fu people. Yes, I know I do kung fu but, I thought respect was earned with your fists.

Apparently, I disrespected a guy on another forum.

He told me, if I felt his energy I wouldn't talk that way to him in person.
He went on about years in the art, his Chinese MA connections, my anonymity, and a bucnh of shit.

WTF?? Yes, we all know most people aren't the assholes in person that they are online. Yet, to say if I felt his energy.....??

    Are we really that ignorant?

They haven't grinded enough reputation for me to respect them.

People who demand respect by default generally do so because they cannot otherwise earn it on their own merit.

        You could try -
Ok, where do you want to meet?

I think we need to go into it deeper perhaps.Their Sifu's Sifu generaly demanded the same from their students. And this expectatin of respect continued so on and so on down the line.

Maybe it's a question of culture also.In asia the old generation is revered .

We do that ALL the time.

Typically, for some reason or another, they are too busy to meet for a period of time which is oddly synchronous with the entire window of opportunity that is extended to them. Go figure...

I think this is the key. In a lot of TMA's I've experienced instrucotrs tend to be very strict and formal, and put a ridiculous amount of emphasis on respect (and implicit trust, too). Practitioners come to accept it as normal.

And what he means about his "energy" is that he probably walks around with a very serious look on his face and his arms crossed and weighted clothing that lowers his power level, so he's used to people not talking to him, or catching the vibe that he's a tard and playing along with his little respect-games.

This kind of analingus is one of the reasons I can't stand traditional classes. The amount of formality in my old Judo class (which was very informal for such a class) always irked me.

Good point Epi and Cauck. I understand what you are saying I've done KF probably before some of you were born. Trust me, I understand the teacher's teacher's teacher historical blah blah blah.. In person I understand, don't like but, I respect a persons beliefs.

On the internet? Please. Demanding respect on the internet seems to be just as important to a Fooer as in person.

I also understand the whole Asian thing. He isn't Asian.

Also, epi what he means is his chi would supress my urge to talk shit. Apparently, you haven't done larping kung fu.

Yes, Tcell I would do that here meet him at a throwdown. On other forums you can get banned. I'm also not into the whole respect me because I challenged you to fight over the internet.

...gawd I just left a dojang like that...so much enphasis on 'etiquette'...yes-sir, yes-mamm, don't forget to bow, if you do it wrong or forget etiquette you give me 100 push ups, late for class? 20 push ups for every minute, Forget something? START PUSHING. Bow to the flag, bow to the association, bow to the GM, bow to the instructor, run around the dojang so we can go in the back office and fuck around, then do these useless wrist locks on a non-resistant idiot (always using one side, facing the same way), do your made up "Korean" forms, don't question us and stfu.

Such bullshit. It's all just mind control. Agree to kiss ass and we'll give you that pretty belt on the wall and let you be in our little club...oh, but not until you pay.

Oh, And I ain't 3 yrs old anymore. I'm 36. WTF. Why do you let a 13 yr old yellow belt chewing bubble-gum and popping her zits warm up the adult class? Also, how stupid does a 40-50 yr old look bowing and saying sorry and kissing ass and doing pushups for some 20 something black belt in self-established Grandmaster Fake Background's style all because he forgot to say "YES MAMM!" and instead weezed out "ok" when he was standing there drenched in sweat, red, out of breath and loopy from doing that useless form a hundred times facing each direction and was corrected on his form?

                      fUCK ALL THAT

...and fuck that Kung Fu asshole, too

beware of a guy who wants you to "feel his energy"...sounds like he's hitting on you.

feel my energy...pfft...muthafucka feel this foot in your ass

This is why I strongly factor in how much of a douche for Korea/China/Japan/Mars the instructors are when I consider signing up for a club. Amen! Testify, Brother!

Anyways, the one legitimate reason for lineage is to establish whether or not someone learned from someone who is competent. No more, no less. It does not make one "t3h d34dly," but it does suggest the person had the opportunity to learn.

This is particularly true of made-up and circle-jerk lineages--"I am a Judan in X Kwan Do!!! Recognized by the World Fellowship of Family Sokeship Councils and Aluminum-Siding Dealers!" Defenders of such nonsense will try to play the "my lineage is in t3h str33tz" card BUT how many of such ACTUALLY have a "fight record" you could verify?
