    Does JJJ Suck?

We've seen alot of crappiness from JJJ. Their training methods, techniques, and bs. But does all of JJJ suck? MMA fighters Carlos Newton and Michael Bisping both started of with JJJ and used it well. So what is the final thought on JJJ?

    "Does JJJ suck?"

The definite answer is "not necessarily". It's a blanket term. Does karate suck? Some styles don't. Most do. Let it go.

Anything not trained in an alive manner sucks. Individual > Training Method > Style.

Technically everything thats in Judo or BJJ is also in JJJ. As phrost said its more about how live you train as opposed to what you train.

I would like to point out that most of the JJJ techniques I've seen were devised with the mindset that you're most likely wearing large armor, which explains the unusual stances and hitting in unusual places (that were most likely chinks in the armor).

It all sucks, good job on that expose. Try Wing Chun next.

Most of the JJJ I've seen looks like this:

            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QAW8umfOt4
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQ0eIQfYV_A

While there is good stuff in most JJJ styles, there's also a lot of low-percentage material. I think Kano and the Kodokan renderd this stuff obsolete.

When you say these MMA fighters used JJJ what do you mean by that? What JJJ techniques did they use?

I got a black belt in an off-shoot of Danzan Ryu (a "Hawaiian- American- Japanese" style). We grappled 2-3x in 5 years. When I went to national conventions or seminars, I learned that most all of the other schools were the same, even school from other styles of jujitsu.

People often say "Not all JJJ" is bad. I say :"OK, but where are they...? Name the specific schools, because I never say ANY that developed students with functional skills"

As a black belt I started BJJ and was about as good as someone with a few months of BJJ at best.

I think a better comparison would be between your school and Judo.

Yes, I was just looking at that vid, its full contact jujitsu as in Brazilian JJ.

So how does Carlos Newton claim JJJ? What school and is it realy JJJ, not a guy who had a BB in JJJ but also in BJJ or Judo?

I understand the answer, but what's the question?

                              The question in the title.
