For a split second, when I thought that you'd failed to post this in Newbietown, I got all excited and I think a little bit of pee came out.

Oh well. Welcome; I hope you stick around.

That's not much of a Bullshido welcome.

Welcome Tosh. I'd like to get your input on how you are recovering or plan to recover from the PCL/LCL surgery. I completely tore my PCL and partially tore my ACL about three-four months back while rolling (doc said no surgery because the PCL fix is a bitch and the ACL was only partially torn). Just looking to compare recovery notes. I'll try and send you a PM.

I don't mind sharing my recovery at all...

Your Doc was right, my understanding is that PCL is the hardest to fix. 4 years ago I tore my LEFT LCL/PCL (Grade II Tear, partial tear) doing Chris Brennans in house tourney, and had it fixed via scope. It came back better then 100%. 2 months ago I tore my RIGHT LCL/PCL applying a calf crush while sparring. This was A grade 3 tear, both of them completely ripped in half. Much, much worse.

Looking back, I made the same mistakes both times. Mistake 1 = mistaking "sweat" for "being warmed up". In other words they were hot summer days where I was sweating before I started, but blood was not pumping and muscles/ligiments were not ready for focused effort. Mistake 2 = not going 100%. At Brennens it was the first round of a round robin and I was fighting a n00b, so I was "saving myself" for later rounds. The latest injury I was rolling with my buddy, sort of clowning. MORAL OF STORY = Play hard or don't play at all.

The doc (I'm lucky to have the best knee doc/pro sports medicine guy in town) replaced my PCL with cadaver achilles tendon, reattached the LCL, decompressed a nerve, and scope'd out other assorted damage. My checkup 2 weeks ago was an EXCELLENT prognosis, everything attached very strong, and considering how I came back from the other knee, thinks I will be about good as new.

I'm also lucky to have a great PT guy. He runs the facility I'm at and also does PT as an officer in the Navel Reserve. He is used to working with *REAL* warriors, SEALS, frogmen, rangers, etc. In other words, hard headed mofos that are anxious to get back to action. ME = also hard headed mofo anxious to get back to action, but probably not quite as tough as his usual patients. :)

Right now I'm in his hands, and we are getting my full range of motion back, and carefully strengthening the connecting musscles, IE Quads and Calf. As my hammy gets stronger we will focus on that too. From there I am going to take my own innitiative to work my legs everyday, and be stronger and more flexable then before.

Probably more then you wanted to know, but I have become an expert in the PCL department, unfortunetly. Regards.

Thanks Tosh, I tried to PM you but couldn't. The info is perfect. My PCL tear/ACL partial tear was from being stacked while "working" with a n00b. Went to recover guard and didn't skip my hips and he dropped all 220lbs on my bent leg. Sounded like canvas tearing. Go hard or go home fits the situation to a tee.

Anyway, I've been back on the mat for 2 months now with an articulated brace and have recently dropped down to a support sleave. Trying to strengthen daily but still a bit tentative. Doc said go slow and strengthen and I should get back to 100%. Good to hear my docs advise is similar to your regardiong the PCL suregery. Mine said if the ACL tear was worse he would go in and do it all, but the ACL has healed up OK.

Again, thanks for the post and welcome.
