How big is this ATA thing?

I've been studying the Chung Do Kwan style of Tae Kwon Do for several months now and earlier today, by accident, I discovered the ATA. I managed to resist the urge to claw out my eyes after seeing their camouflage belt and "Tiny Tigers" program and while trying to find out exactly what those people doing, I found this site as well.

What I'd like to know is if stupid crap like the ATA is why so many people on here seem to have such a negative view of TKD. My instructor is a legit 9th Dan who's been studying TKD for over 50 years, has been running his school in the US for over 30 since coming over from Korea, he hates the Olympic-style point system, acknowledges the Shotokan roots of our style, trains us so that if an opponent's hands drop, that it's fine to go for the head (be it with a punch or a kick) and won't issue a black belt to anyone younger than 16 years old, regardless of how long they've been with him or what they can do. I know that makes us the exception and not the rule, what I would like to find out is how widespread the problem of this pseudo-TKD is.

ATA is a pretty big organisation. They have schools all over the world. So i guess an anwer to your question it's pretty widespread.

Every TKDer here does the r3al TkD. They all have the real master form Korea, they all hate point fighting, they all fight full contact, they all acknowlage that TKD is shotokan and that shotkan is bullshidofied okinawan Karate-jitsu. They all cross train in muay thai and bjj, and they all think WC is stupid.
