Yup, as well as for crushing a slow moving, heavily armored samurai.....its not a ninjer weapon though. Its well documented in more 'regular' histories. A iron plated version is called a tetsubo or iron staff/rod...I don't recall the name for the plain wood one.

Doesn't score too high in the stealth and sneakiness category, does it?

No, but if you actually look at the Bujinkan, there are 3 standards of weapons :

        1. Ninjer - shuriken, metsubushi etc
        2. Standard - swords of various types, halberds etc
        3. Obscure - like the giant club...I sometimes think these are included for their kewl factor rather than applicable practice, but thats just my opinion.

Tetsubo- Iron *banded* version of a regular short bo, not them big heavy ones. The tesubo, I believe, is taught in some form by yagu shinkage ryu/ itto ryu (but don't hold me by that), and is more simply a bo that you can physically block a sword with more than once that a crushing weapon of doom. That club thing that that guy was holding I've heard described as a "heavy bo", and I'm unaware of any extant schools teaching it (except, of coure, the venerable Bujinkan)

As far as ridiculous Booj stuff, I hearby nominate each and every "multi-person creative kata"- I can't believe how much these guys are able to fuck up an already fucked up idea. I have seen one of these where they literally have an attacker try to flying scissor lock a small girl, who then counters with (I shit you not) a straight out of WWF piledriver. This was a SELF DEFENCE KATA.

"Carl Sensei, what if this huge guy on the street tried to use some kind of flying scissor lock? I saw it last night on Smackdown and it looked DEADLY"

"Ah young grasshopper, then you must do as the Great Undertaker has done before you, as documented in the lineage scrolls, and bury your opponent with a piledriver."

"But Sensei, what if there were multiple opponents?"

"But do not the scrolls dictate that your back will be watched by your Honored Brother Kane?"

Not when you pull it from your hyperdimentional space, where your comically huge mallet is.

            Baka.

Hmm, I disagree...I have see an old Stephen Turnbull book on the samurai that has a great painting showing a larger than normal staff with iron plating/banding that is called a tetsubo...although the name may remain the same regardless of size.

As too your other ninja related comments, I'm afraid that I must clean the coffee from my keyboard prior to continuing (bastard).

There's video footage out there of a Genbukan group competing in some sort of 'self defence techniques' competition where, amongst other things I saw the students using a hurricanrana and a powerbomb. I guess that means Kevin Nash and Rey Misterio Jr. are ninjas. :ninja2:

I'm afraid that japanese paintings, you will ftnd, are not always great indicators of weapon size- I've seen enough massive dramatic postured swords to last a lifetime. That being said, you might very well be correct, and I'm no scholar.

Let me also say to any BBT guys who are desperately trying to readeem themselves from this shit that there is always a ninja group lower than the BBT, and I ain't talkin bout no Ashida Kim.

Guess what group is an official martial art club at USC?

                    Dux Ninjitsu.

                    Yeah, THAT Dux.

Let's all go laugh at the LARPers now.

Originally from the Long Island Ninjutsu Centre's demo team. The powerbomb and hurricanrana are actually executed pretty well, just bugger all to do with traditional Japanese MA. Unless old-school puroresu counts.

Long Island Ninjutsu Centers is an anomoly. On the basic level they are a standard Genbukan School. They spar, they compete, and most of their black belts are fairly hard core. However, past that they are McDojo to the extreme.

First Allie Renchi, before he was a Genbukan member, was a Circle of One Ninjer. Koga Ryu to the extreme. In addition, he has a Karate Backround. So included in his Genbukan school, is Karate Kata and Okinawan Kobudo.

On that video is the "Demo" team. None of that is Ninjutsu, all of that is Karate. Allie Renchi is a crazy good business man, and gives the public what they want to see, in other to get more students.

I have trained with those guys a solid amount, they actually are pretty good Ninjutsu guys, once you get passed the Okiwanan stuff.
