Tired of so called "MMA" in UFC

*groan*.... even the thread title makes no sense.

I don't have the energy to go it alone on this one. Just another reminder of why I don't even bother posting there anymore. On that board I am just too outnumbered and the groupthink is too strong and the moderation is too heavy. It takes all the fun out of ridiculing people.

When a topic like this one:

    http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/foru...ad.php?t=39598

....can be taken seriously...what else is there to say. And some of those guys are even adults....MOST of them. Maybe I'm just feeling unispired at the moment. There just seems like sooooo much wrong with the entire "deabte". It is so 90's. :laughing3

    This is a nice one:

ufc fighters are about conditioning and being able to take it as opposed to really being into martial arts.
I remember I bought an issue of Kungfu magazine some years ago. The first time ever I heard of Stav (just an ad though). There was some stupid shit from James Lacey in it also. It really opened my eyes to how much bullshido there is out there.

I read it. 3 posts containing weird statements, but the rest all seemed to say that the UFC fighters were most effective if they cross-trained, and Kung Fu Magazine was stupid for saying they were not martial artists.

didn't see your point really, just seems like you were trying to stir some shit.

"ufc fighters are about conditioning and being able to take it as opposed to really being into martial arts."

What they say is true, from a certain point of view. :tongue11:

Their bizzaro-world version of martial arts is probably limited to blowing asian cultures, perfecting weird dance forms and working on inner peace or chi or "respect for the master".

That has to be the worse quote ever, "ufc fighters are about conditioning and being able to take it as opposed to really being into martial arts." In just about every fight I have seen, they keep talking about how winded so and so is. In fact, just this past Saturday on UFC Unlimited, Bonner was fighting and throughout the entire fight, Joe was saying how winded Bonner and his opponent were. I believe the fighters in the UFC are all about ending the fight as soon as possible. As far as being martial artists, on Saturdays show, they had a guy from Chicago who apparently did not have any MA training, just a really good street fighter, good striker but not G and P, he took a flying knee to the head and was out cold. :read:

Omar, I'm confused too, what's so bad about this convo? People aren't sitting there spouting how they can't use their iron palm or chi powers in UFC... didn't even see mention about the eye gouge or complaining about the fact that there's a ring, no glass or lava on the ground. All the things you see in a typical bullshido whining convo about UFC isn't on that page... Soem people on there even seemed knowledgeable about some of the fighters.

I don't know who this guy is, but I think he belongs over here if he isn't already a Bullshido user.

Edit: Seriously, there are actually some really good posts by users over there. This isn't the total headache I thought it was going to be.

I would like to see more knees hitting noses, elbows hitting jaws, and
snap kicks. I use almost all kicks when I fight. I'll be doing some amatuer
cage fights over the next couple years.
Yeah, I wanna see that too, except that these are very low percentage moves. But maybe I shouldn't be confusing this young man's dreams with my fancy mathematics.

And SNAP KICKS? Yeah, let's see more of those!

Problem: Not enough knees to the face in UFC.

Possible Cause #1: UFC guys don't know how to do knees to the face.

Possible Cause #2: Its hard to knee people in the face in a real fight.

                      Hmmmmmmmmm...

The second page of that was rife with Bullshido. I hear your pain, Omar, pretty sad indeed. This reminds me of an article in the latest Black Belt Bullshit magazine (or something like that) that was entitled "Foul-mouthed MMA fighters lack honor". Followed closely by an article about why ground fighting doesn't work.

You guys have to realize that at least half the posters on that thread are being sarcastic. SevenStar takes BJJ and Muay Thai, for example.

Alright so it's a mixed bag on the responses. I'm basically with Chaos on this. The whole topic gives me a headache and I don't even know how to respond without rampant flaming. I am AMAZED that people like 7* or Rogue can even maintain an itelligent conversation on something like that. I am also thouroughly dissappointed in the same couple of people for coming up with such lame counterarguments.

Lousseau ? Is that the best people can do? It's not like powerfull strikers are the exceptions to the rule anymore. How about some real monsters like Crocop? Or even Silva? [sarchasm]Oh...that's right. Silva doesn't really have any skill in striking he just pumps himself full of steroids and flails.[/sarchasm]

I'd say that Fedor is an incredible striker. He doesn't seem to really know how to kick but his punching is phenomenal . . . even if it isn't at Crocop's level.

And yes, Astrosmurf, Davie Jameson's comments made me want to rip my hair out. It especially bugs me because I know the guy trains and from what I've seen he trains well, even spent some time training MMA.

Why are people not being torn apart for stuff like this:

The avaerage UFC fighter only focuses on ground skills if they know they are going to be facing a grappler. Then they train hard for 2-3 moths. That just don't cut it. It takes years. It is no accident that all the current title holders have strong wrestling backgrounds. They spent years doing it.
All the current title holders? Is that true? Maybe it is. I dunno. But it certainly hasn't been reflected in the fights. The current trend, the one we have been dicsusisng here lately, has been one towards GNP. People have been coming in with MUCH less grappling expertese than they used to. People are learning how to punch from the guard. The grappling domination is 5 years ago if not 10.

Ground work is still VITAL but to say it's all they do and that the striking is "just flailing" is retarded.

                              Eternal Rage:

I agree that they kind of got on track on the second page. What really gives me the headache over there, honestly, is that you have to even pretend that certain ideas are reasonable and simpy somewhat different opinions as opposed to head shoved up your ass brain damage.

There are some kinds of questions I don't even like to dignify with a polite response.

I'm just spoiled by the lack of moderation over here I guess.
