    Oh man, thanks!

I was almost 8 fucking years too late to get in on this shaolin/Silat goodness...

Now I can properly defend myself in Texas since- you know- guns aren't a thing down there.

There is another Seminar coming to San Antonio May 2010 with Guru Eric Kruk. He teaches the Harimau system. I've had the opportunuty to train with him before and it was amazing.
Our school (SEAMOK) doesn't teach pure Silat but many of our takedowns and finishes are Silat based. Its really a hybrid art with the main pillars of Eskrima, Wing Chun, and Silat. If you are interested, call Guro Michael Blackgrave at 210-589-6151
We are also having a seminar here in San Antonio on 26 July. Its in conjunction with our feature in Martial Arts Illustrated this month.

"You just missed a Silat seminar in San Antonio last weekend. There's a Wing Chun instructor on Vance Jackson (Dragon Academy???) .. it's right by La Fogata .. he's trained in Silat, but I don't know that he has silat students."

I stopped by this particular place yesterday, as a matter of fact. It isn't an advertised system, but I did note two of the advanced class wing chun students were working Silat on a mat in the back of the school.

The opportunities to train in Pencak Silat in Texas are among the best in the United States. The post above mentions Leslie Buck, he is probably one of the most talented martial artists that I have had the opportunity to train with. he can be reached through www.texaskali.org

Also mentioned was the Wing Chun instructor, as far as I know he does not teach sialt at this time. If he is the gentleman I believe him to be, he stopped teaching after the death of Pendakar Herman Suwanda.

If you would like to travel to Dallas, there is a group that hosts Guru Richard Crabbe Debordes of the Hanafi lineage of Pencak Silat Minagkabau Harimau twice a year. The next training opportunity is the last weekend in March. Please contact me for details. It is ALWAYS an exciting weekend and well worth the trip.

As a note, the group in Dallas will be hosting Bapak Dadang of Mande Muda International in May as well.

Please let me know if anyone has any Questions.
    K-

Center of Martial arts in Austin has a good silat guy-Leslie Buck. He has traveled and trained in Indonesia, speaks Indonesian! He is also a senior rep for pekiti tirsia kali.

I'm in SA. Email me [email protected] and I may be able to pass on the name of a former JKD guy who trained with Inosanto. I know he has a bunch of silat techniques.

I wish you luck in your search.

I got to train in Silat for about 2 months and would love to train in it again... but no schools for me, either. The entries were tough for me to learn (never really did), but I loved the finishing moves. I think their principles are applicable to other arts, as well.

I have done some web research on Silat. Here are most of the websites I found:

http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/P...ukulan.htm#USA - list of schools (probably not complete)
    http://www.pencaksilat.com/ - One of the better-known sites
    http://www.geocities.com/~pendekar/index.html
    http://www.clearsilat.com/silat/Articles/history.htm
    http://www.combat-silat.net/silatnow/default.asp
http://www.martialartsplanet.com/for...&threadid=2159 - Discussion. Also contains links
    http://web.umr.edu/~maja/silat.term.html
    http://www.geocities.com/kalipages/
    http://www.buktinegara.com/principles.html
    http://www.btinternet.com/~harimau/introduction.htm

I have also been meaning to buy some of the videos from this site http://www.christianmartialartist.com/bookvideo.html , but have not yet done so. The one by Stevan Plinck looks really good. He's the guy from the 2nd web site.

Good luck, and let us know if you find anything.
