The guys are not really well equipped to deal with a trained assault. They are there to be peace keepers, not the blue team. The average 20 year old has grown up on a steady diet of Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six and Call of Duty. They are lethal with a real weapon, even the morons. Resource officers short of SWAT veterans are dead meat, which is why they all ran.

Other than equipping schools with combat veterans (something I support hardheartedly), you're not going to be able to expect much. Even that idea is fraught with potential risks, but it might be worth a shot (pun..)

Trump called them "cowards" and now the local police are protecting them from mobs and death threats, so that's helpful.
