Yeah I'm basically stealing that for when I talk to Krav guys next.

One of the many thing I dislike in Krav and rbsd in general is it's one gear approach to fighting, 'go deadly or go home' if you will.

They often start with the slightly dodgy premise that every fight is life or death. This isn't true, not really. Of course people can die in a fight and this needs to be taken into consideration but going straight in with throat chops and eye gouges and sheer aggression will get the wrong fucking people killed.

I hate the false sense of security RBSD gives people and Krav is one of the worst offenders. I actively try and dissuade friends from doing it, particularly females.

The Gracie Academy/Royce and Rorian were very involved with creating the army combatives, I am told.

This is 100% true. Matt Larsen took a group of guys out to Torrance from Ranger Regiment to train with Rorion and Royce who helped them build out a foundational combatives program for the regiment which later became MACP after the Army adopted it. SOCP was developed by Greg Thompson, himself a Royce blackbelt and Royce to this day has a pretty close relationship with the program and used to do a lot of free seminars for on post.

To jump on the KM hate it's been my experience that if you do somehow find "Good KM" it's probably not KM in anything but name. I personally know several instructors that are doing combat sambo but calling it KM because KM is a money maker with name recognition amongst the general public and an amazing marketing system.

Police should be learning BJJ. Instead they cover hand-to-hand for a day or two at the Academy.
Krav Maga is ridiculous for police to learn. Their motto is " Protect and serve", not ,"Maim and kill because they were looking at me funny." It might be more detrimental to police officers if Krav Maga actually worked for them.
It's easy to be out of control and just flail wildly. Controlling a situation is what takes skill.

Wow. He is a douche bag on multiple levels. But his paranoia and threat assessment is almost commendable.

He could plainly see how out matched his Krav Maga training was against teenage girls and decided lethal force was the best weapon.

Law enforcement is still taught not to risk drawing their sidearm unless lethal force is a serious consideration right? Not to be used as a compliance tool because of the risk of escalation and the weapon being used against them?

There's also somethinges to be said for the Krav practitioner training themselves to go down and out to shots because "that's what you are supposed to do." I read a book called Meditations On Violence. In the book the author references robbers running away after being shot 5 times and cops being put out out of commission with a single shot. He believes it's because cops lay down and die because that's what they are supposed to do"

That's where competing comes in, nobody just lays down and gives up. So you find out what it's like to deal with that aspect.

Put it this way, if your KM instructor is Russian there is a good chance you're really learning Sambo. There is a strong belief amongst some in the Russian Sambo community that Imi was trained in Combat Sambo and that KM is a bastardized half-assed take on Combat Sambo so hijacking their marketing machine is totally fine.
