Probably not. I think he may have underestimated how hard it is to take down a skinny, drunk woman who is wearing heels on a slick floor. Plus, may have been a bit adrenalized...

He did the technique very well indeed.

        Agree.

There is this thing we do in Judo called a "near leg Tai Otoshi". Except we will have a sleeve grip on the far sleeve, and attempt (at least) to rotate the person over onto their back. Pulling strongly on the sleeve allows that to happen with fair regularity. And we don't use an armbar as part of the throw.

Typically, it is done in a kenka yotsu situation, where tori has an outside lapel/overgrip on uke and far sleeve control, or far lapel control. It may score, or it may break uke down to allow tori to get into better position for another throw, or make a skillful entry to groundwork (uke may be face down, but not face-planted).

One of my students uses it fairly regularly against left-stanced opponents. I learned it from one of my first sensei back in early 80s.

And Tai Otoshi does not require touching uke leg at all, being te waza.

I was applying judo terminology to what the cop did. You know how Judo guys like to name things.

Armbar takedown is what cops call it, though, LOL

Well in my defence it is a grainy crap video, it looked at first like he was twisting in, I didn't notice his arm grab. Oh and fuck you.

I had to rewatch it, I might need glasses. It still doesn't look controlled to me. I have never seen anyone just flop someone from an armbar. That's why I thought he was trying a toss.

Did you notice how I didn't make any detailed comments on that non-existent half-guard pass over in the wrestling thread? Despite the fact that I know a few myself that I know work?

It is not for nothing it is called an "arm bar takedown... it's a standard takedown that cops use.

Again, I'd say he probably used more force than necessary given the circumstances in the video. There was some narrative that she had already battered him, though, or something like that, so can't be sure of that.

If she wasn't injured (seriously), NBD IMO, but I'm no "use of force" expert.

If it weren't controlled, it would not have worked, and it worked very well.

By the girl wearing 6 inch heel it's basically like built in perfect forward throw kuzshi and the cop did the "sword drawing" motion very well resulting in her getting face planted.

                      Yes indeed...

It can be done slower and without the face plant, or at least such a fast face plant.

Wish all my judo opponents years ago had been wearing heels, LOL!

i'd still like to know what her alleged assault was.

Yeah, but I thought the whole point of that move was to keep control of the arm after the takedown, not to splat someone's face. It looked like a schoolyard bully throw to me. I'm not even close to an expert, but I have practiced that exact type of takedown and haven't ever seen it used just to concrete someone's face.

Her skills at self preservation sucked too.

That's actually a good point to be made, I mean really how hard could it have been to stumble her?? Surely any cop that outweighs a skinny woman should be able to at least look better when faceplanting her. It just looked labored to me. He should have been able to control her at will without needing to splat her face.
