He's not a shitty firearms intructor, but if people tried his Krav for reelz they'd be disappointed if they're lucky, dead if they're not. Although even idiots would have to realize when shit goes down that they missed the part about a resistant attacker.

Don't ever do something as stupid as this takedown and mount in the street, unless it's in actual self-defense...definitely don't post it to Facebook and gloat about the junkie in government housing you just did it to, because he can get a free lawyer and sue your ass for medical damages and then you won't just be subsidizing him via the government, you'll be writing checks to him directly.

How about we don't assault people in general. I like that better, for all the same reasons. Humans are dangerous and unpredictable animals. They also have lawyers which are just as dangerous but in different ways.

It might be true that BJJ gyms don't go 100% all the time, but that's because they're usually training skill instead of egomania.
Krav Maga is just showing off what little skill it has at full power so it's adherents keep drinking Kool-Aid. Muh D34dly!

Let me relate my own anecdote of a supposedly badass firearms instructor I learned from recently. He was practicing his ungodly fast commando pistol disarm technique on me, because he thought I was the only one who could handle the masterful ninja-ness of it. He went with full force about thirty times or so, obviously attempting to show off, and expecting me to wince or give up. Wasn't real impressed, so I started actually trying to hold onto the gun.

You know what Mr. Badass told me? "You're gripping the gun too hard."

Because apparently the addict whose A-gland is kicking into over drive while he's taking your money will gently caress the gun he's holding conveniently within easy reach.

Oh yeah. Krav is so good, it changes the nature of reality.

I have four years of Krav Maga experience but I had to stop a few months back when my teacher left. I also have a brown belt in Judo but have not been in a judo dojo in about 15 years.

This week, I decided to sign up for a free week at a local BJJ school and I don't think I'm going to fit in there.

During a two hour class on Saturday, I was told by three different partners that I was either going 'too rough' or I shouldn't grab their gi so hard or I need to be careful while sparing because I 'almost punched' a guy when I went to grab the neck of his gi. Also, people were freaking out if you came within a few feet of them while you were grappling with your partner.

Tonight, my partner (a fellow white belt) asked me not to grab his gi so hard because it was scratching his arm. Later I was practicing a sweep and when I got on top of him, he told me I was going 'too hard.'

In my Krav class, people got hit in the nose and face regularly. A little blood would get spilled every few weeks but we just cleaned it up and continued with the lesson. No one seemed to mind. Guys (or gals) would shake hands to show that they were alright and no one got pissy about being hit. If you did, then you didn't stick around too long at this school.

On the other hand, this bjj school seems to be very competition oriented. Is it typical that the guys there would be such prima donnas and complain about little things like having their gi grabbed too hard? I am looking to use bjj to round out my self defense repertoire so I'm pretty serious about pushing hard when practicing a technique and using explosive power to my advantage. My experience at this bjj school thus far seems to indicate that the guys there are not willing to work with someone who wants to go full tilt - in other words, the same way you would react to a situation in the street if you happen to find yourself on the ground.

I have to say that after a few days with these bjj guys really makes me miss my old krav teacher and class. It's a real effin shame.

After typing this whole thing out, I think I'm pretty sure I won't sign a long term contract with this bjj school. Doesn't seem like a good fit for someone interested in self-defense. BJJ actually seems like a waste of time unless you're interested in trophies or going into the UFC.

I haven't grappled for awhile but I used to feel the same Way about noob spazzes. I felt the same way when it came to dealing with aggressive wrestlers and strength athletes. They where harder to deal with because of there skill and strength of course. One place I trained was close to a collage campus, so we got a lot of in shape wrestlers coming in. Many would come in and be in wrestling mode and Go all out every roll. All lot of guys complained about it. As long as it wasn't to extreme like some noobs and think rolling is a mma fight, I I didn't mind.

Spazy all out people are both fun and fine, once you have the fundamentals of how to deal with them and you can keep yourself safe while dealing with them.
Until then well they are just dangerous and nobody is learning anything.

Yeah. I think I have gotten better because of it. You try to do something and they just clamp. So you have to get the technique to a fighting standard or it just stalls.

I think this is one of those depends on the school being big enough to have beginner classes or not.

If its small and you have a wide range of belts it seems like the spazzes get dealt with quickly.

If its large and the class is nothing but white belts its spazz city.

I get your point. One thing that perhaps encourages spazzes is "rolling" too soon.

Large white belt classes are not an optimal learning experience unless there is a lot of supervision.

I've seen a few spazzes in BJJ class. If they're particularly egregious, a blue/purple belt will usually be put on spazz-duty and will proceed to shithouse them until they calm down. If they don't calm down eventually, of course, they'll inevitably end up getting themselves hurt via being too cool to tap or trying a flying armbar on the 280-pound purple belt and piledriving themselves, and never return. Either way, it's typically not a long-term problem.

For what it's worth, I find it kinda interesting to grapple a newbspazz every now and then. While it's obviously not entirely analogous to an actual fight, it does give you a feel for what it's like to grapple against an untrained opponent going balls-to-the-walls, which is valuable experience. The noob in question doesn't learn a damn thing, though, except maybe that he sucks way more than he anticipated, which I guess is the bigger issue.

In short, don't be a spazz. It sucks.

I don't have problems with noob-spazzes in my judo classes. Not sure what is up with BJJ. Don't you guys just choke that sort out a few times ? Tends to slow them down a bit...
