Investigations and the Bullshido brand. We had Irvin out the pipe, but things went sideways when the Irvin investigation fell apart. This caused certain individuals to disrupt Decoded and we haven't accomplished shit since.

That's when I joined wasn't it. It sort of feel like the site has gotten a lot less active since then. I'm of the mind that we can still spread the message without being actively hostile to everyone that wants to pull up a chair and start posting here. Which is why I think Dale is actually hurting the site at the moment.

Good points, all. I blame myself. And everyone else. And pets, and obama. I just blame.

Also, we've been basically replaced the the BJJ Police who are more direct than our investigators and have the access they need. They're less intelligent and less ethical and should be destroyed for the most part, but they are effective. We aren't. Too much ego, too much infighting.

I would go so far as to say that the wider the net cast is as far as making this a place to hangout, a) the more idea collision there will be and the more introspective cognitive dissonance will result and b) the more intrigued, happy users will voluntarily support. Hard, guilt-driven member ship driving should be limited to short, occasional pledge drives. I learned this from NPR.

Evangelism as regards our supporting membership is appreciated, and that guy appears to have been what we in the social media trade call "a douche"

But this is not a premium-only site. It's a consumer protection site, and we'll never charge people just to hangout.

The supporting membership is a true plate/hat pass.

Well, let's not be too hasty on that. If a new member joins and that new member is a legit and experienced martial artist that has something worthwhile to contribute than whether he is a supporting member or not is irrelevant. Worthwhile knowledge and valuable opinions don't have a price tag...and let's remember that this site was set up as free to join for a reason.

I mean shit, one new guy hit down vote instead of upvote on accident and Dale tore him a new asshole right than and there. I mean the dude even apologized and shit. And now he doesn't post anymore. And the community continues to get increasingly barren.

Worked like a charm for Comcast.

I don't know what happened to Dale. He used to be like a cross between a sweet hippie uncle and a teddy bear that breaks bricks and makes jow. He had a warm open invitation to all seekers of dank ass tea parties and the real kung fu. (Iirc he still does)
But the tone of YMAS is so acrid. The people who rive here develop a rather bitting style of quip.
I would like to say Dale is one of then coolest, most genuine and most generous members here. You just gotta talk to him like a man and not like a troll.

I see how newcomers could be alienated. The rules are kind of opaque to a first timer and the culture can be antagonistic. Jhmo, I don't think a change of rules or culture would be good for Bullshido at all but perhaps a gentler aproach to newbies would help?
Maybe spend more time bringing them into the fold an explaining things then gleefully tearing them apart when they cross a line they didn't know was there.

    Just a thought...

There is indeed much wisdom in your words and why I will occasionally ride people like they owe me money.
