I found me a Mr. Miyagi with a Kobra Kai training mentality.

Randy Couture thinks you're a dick for making an assessment of skills based on getting KO'ed by a crane kick.

Cobra Kai or Miyagi? I love that movie because it got all those little shit bastards into the dojo. And their useless self absorbed parents are happy to pay up because it is cheaper than daycare. And because of those those little brats and the $$$ that their dumbass parents pony up, I can have air conditioning, mats all over the place, and every possible piece of equipment. And it is all for 1980's prices!! Yes , that Karate Kid movie really improved martial arts.

As far as the movie itself, it was total bullshit. Hollywood is total bullshit.

I learned a great deal about arseholes on the street corner...

Miyagi was a crappy martial arts teacher, but Cobra Kai were a bunch of assholes. I think it's important - especially if you're teaching kids and teens- for a martial arts school to be an ethical and positive/supportive group. If you're teaching martial arts and teaching people to be assholes, than you're just training up a bunch of bullies.

They even, the year I went, had a division with gloves and face punches that allowed a woman to fight the men. She got 2nd place- beat the tar out of a dude who was also fighting hard, and with a swollen face she then fought that dude's instructor. She lost, but put up a hell of a fight. Everyone was happy. Nobody was holding back because she was a woman, either, thank fuck. She was big and strong and shew crew up in a tough as hell part of the world and she is still my hero more than a little.

The KK tournies up here don't even have that. I was fresh out of my white in my first tournie when I got destroyed by a brown with years of competition experience for my first fight.

We... we do joke about being Cobra Kai in my dojo too, sometimes.

On another note when the science catches up I am going to use my engineering know how to build the "Montage Machine" where basically you will be able to download skills right into the brain. Sort of like in the Matrix.
As long as Stan Bush, Joe Esposito or Kenny Loggins is playing during the upload I'd say you're doing gods work, sir.

Well, since Pat Morita was doubled in the action scenes by Fumio Demura, it kinda makes sense.
I met Sensei Demura a while back when he came here to Honduras to test two local high rank black belts for higher grade. He flunked both of them. Respect for the man.
