State your unpopular opinions about Martial Arts here:

Heel Hooks aren't anymore dangerous then any other twisting submission such as a Kimura

While Judo, BJJ and Sambo are evolutions of JJJ. Aikido is watered down JJJ.

The Katana is the best sword you can make with the pig iron the Japanese had available but completely inferior to their European counterparts.

Wacky Sport specific guards are not the end of BJJ as a "martial art".

The Bujinkan, while lacking in alive training, is not the crap McDojo that everyone thinks it is.

Krav Maga is a good and fast way to teach someone basic selfdefense.

Taekwondo is not a game of foot-tag.

Kyokushin is overrated as a striking art.

Boxing is the greatest martial art of all time, next to wrestling.

Dojo storming should still be a thing.

Horse stance, while boring to novices and the impatient, is one of the greatest leg exercises ever developed by man, but few people realize this because they are lazy.

Assuming one is proficient with it, in the age of firearms and concealed carry, martial arts are partially redundant.
Shut the hell up and train.

I'm gonna second the whole Bruce Lee thing. Even here, in the land of the doubters, many still have a too high opinion of him.

He was not a great martial artist. Solid good, maybe. Not great.

If somebody teaches martial arts that has punches and kicks and yet doesn't test it out in a sporting venue (which is way hell safer than a criminal encounter), he should stop teaching and go back to white belt. If, for whatever reason, gives a platitude of reasons why he doesn't, it essentially boils down to two things: either he doesn't have the skills or he doesn't have the balls. Most often both are present in the majority of teachers out there.

This is probably not a popular opinion here. But in many dojos and dojangs around the world, the horse stance is held in high esteem as a great way to exercise the legs.

They are wrong. And so are you.

The study of martial arts, in and of itself, has as much to do with respect, humility and discipline as tennis (or any other athletic endeavor) does.

Judo kata are quite fun to practice and are a nice way of cooling down after randori.

I have mentioned this in another thread, all sword training is basically LARPing. Unless you're competing in actual death matches its LARPing. Now I'm not saying people are dressing up and screaming "lightning bolt", but it's still the same basic delusion.
