FUCK!!
Holy fucking shit that fucking felt good.
Sorry, I've been a long time member at Martial Arts Planet (MAP) and swearing is against ToS there.
I've browsed through Bullshido a few times through the years and I'm a fan of the forum. I especially like the Youtube videos. I decided it's probably time to join Bullshido. Partly because there are more 'merikuns here and at some point in the future it would be nice to potentially meet up with people in their places of training, and partly because it's more in line with my own views on martial arts in general. I'm not a huge traditional MA fan.
I've been doing martial arts off an on since I was 16 (2004). I started with Isshinryu Karate in Gainseville Fl, a traditional style. I moved on to training MMA at a place called F2 Darkside in Gainesville from 18-20yrs of age. F2 was focused heavily on BJJ/Grappling at that time from what I experienced in 06-08. I joined the Marine Corps Infantry in 08, served as a TOW Gunner for two years, then moved into a sniper platoon where I was given the opportunity to go to SS school (and passed). I've been on a MEU (for those who know what the hell that is), responded in the Haiti Relief effort after their earthquake, and have deployed to Afghanistan as an SS.
I left the Marine Corps in 2012 and moved up to DC and trained in Boxing for a year and some change. Unfortunately I got knocked out last June in my first amateur boxing match and am still recovering from the mTBI I received. My recovery has been painfully slow due to trying to "push through" the injury, is compounded by other physical injuries including an mTBI I was unaware of from an IED blast in Afghanistan, and PTSD/Anxiety issues that I have found new difficulty with due to the current injury. Fuck it.
When I do get back to training some form of martial arts, I hope to dive into either BJJ or Wrestling. I'm obviously not trying to get dinged in the head any time soon (damn adult responsibilities are the reason) and I'm hitting an age where I think trying to compete in striking arts is a practical idea, especially with my injury sheet right now. Who fucking knows though. That said, there's a lot less room for more TBI in grappling!
I love martial arts and fighting has been a part of my life since 16, not something I want to give up. Other interests of mine include SD awareness, strength training/conditioning (although you wouldn't be able to tell from the obese blob I have become in the last year due to injury), and . . . well, not much else.
So that's my intro.. Hopefully I can be a decent contributing member here. If I post bullshit make sure you tell me to fuck off and why so I can re-assess my own values.
