Confronting Wing Chun Skeptisism

So...wherever this, um, "event" took place there's a style of 'karate' that consists of trying to throw nothing but big, winging haymakers, virtually no kicks, footwork or defenses and an "armbar" attempt...on the wrong arm (among other things).

Cool. What's this 'karate' style called?

Never having seen it before, I'd like to look it up. Thanks.

Not surprising as I'm pretty sure there is a guard pass technique hidden in the Chum Kiu form.

The throw looked more accidental to me, but if you see a deliberate attempt in it I can go with that.
I will disagree with you on the guard pass. The guy on bottom did sort of have his legs in the way and entwined the guys arm but a guard it was not. The Guy was pretty much already pass his guard from the get go all he had to do was smash the guys hips and pull his arm. Certainly saw no training of reasonable note in ground fighting more of a well I have seen UFC a few times so I kind of get what is suppose to happen thing going on.

I didnt' say it was good, just that he did it, LOL. No great ne waza skills displayed.

On the "throw", well, he did grab the guy's knee and his body position was pretty good. I'm thinking it was a deliberate takedown.

The "karate" guy's belt looks maybe brown when he walks into the sunlight.

I'll give this to the Wing Chun guy, he has some fast hands. Seems like he was getting in a lot of strikes, even if they weren't devastating knockout punches.

He also did a good job of keeping the fight where he wanted it. Maintained a linear fight in close so he could fully utilize his chain punchy stuff.

All in all, this is easily the most impressive Wing Chun I've ever witnessed via the internets.

However, I'd like to see how the guy matches up against a good boxer or a muay thai practitioner. Or at least someone who either a) protects his head while attempting to fight on the inside or b) utilizes longer range kicks to the leg. I'd also like to know what type of karate that guy practices. I was expecting a lot more linear strikes, less schoolyard haymakers. Weird.

I'm pretty sure a good grappler would've chowdered him, though. Those punches were coming fast and furious, but they didn't look like they had the force to stop a really dedicated morote gari, and that floor doesn't look forgiving.
