So your master is below Fred Vilarri, who sucks. Got it.
I find it amazing that you can dissect a knife defense after only a few weeks of training.
He had previous training before training there. Quite possibly better training. Way to assume that your art is so vastly superior.
These moves and defenses take thousands of repetitions to become useful. But hey, you seem to have all the answers. You cant hand a person a guitar, give them one lesson, and expect Joe Satriani speed, accuracy, and smoothness.
I could teach an afternoon of knife defense strategies that would be far more immediately applicable than kempo knife defenses.

Karate and other martial arts are no different. As to Master Pearl striking you when you called him out in front of the class, well... a palm is fortunate for you.
He's lucky for only being lightly struck after asking a question when the guy asked "any questions?"
iv'e seen our black belts fight full on contact and i can tell you first hand, our system works. if you really want to see, just ask. im certain you will get the answers you need.
If only there were some sort of electronic communications medium where people could share videos...

Lastly, Don't talk smack about my Master and his family when you are the one who entered our Dojo with a closed mind and a bad attitude.
Alternative view: he walked into a business and paid them money for a product they didn't deliver. Perfectly legit thing to complain about.

Enjoy your journey from school to school for that is all your life will amount to until you change your attitude and empty your cup.
Enjoy keeping a full cup within the style that filled it.

              A few things Shawn.

              1. You are a liar.
              2. I have over 35 years martial arts experience and hold a high level black belt and I do not let any of my students call me master. So you're also a sycophant.

Before you respond hastily remember I'm more than willing to do this face to face.

#2. Congratulations. 35 years is a long time. I hope to say the same some day.
#3. Really? As a good student I put up a thread to defend my system
And you a high level black belt of 35 years wants to meet face to face.
Wow. Who pissed in your cheerios.

"Wants" to meet face-to-face isn't synonymous with "willing" to meet face-to-face.

And what does rank/time training have to do with either of them? if it's all mutually consensual, it shouldn't matter how much experience or history the participants have.

My knife defense expertise is limited to one disarm I did in my 3 months of Aikido. I don't remember it, but that's beside the point. The point is, if step one is grab the blade of the knife, then it's pretty clearly, and in fact, unarguably bullshit. Not to mention incredibly dangerous and stupid. I would think any rational person would agree with that.

So you have to be some sort of expert to know Knives are sharp and grabbing them by the blade is a bad idea? Or does your training somehow make your immune to getting cut?

If someone has only ever used knife-simulators they might not know knives are usually sharp. . .

(Or they may have just been getting all of their knife techniques from medieval european dagger fighting, being that a lot of what was recorded describes weapons that were often quite blunt.)
