The brown belt did the right thing in the wrong way. After all, his motivation seems to be the teacher's chicanery vis-a-vis belt colors. So what does he do? He engages in belt chicanery himself, to pass as a beginner when he wasn't in order to show up the teacher and "break his rice bowl."

Had he shown up as a brown—before class would have been better as well—and aired his concerns, and then offered to tool everyone, that would have been better.

I can't be the only one here that's dying to know what the rant was about.

      Come on... Post it up.

As for the subject at hand I would have to agree with those who say that it all depends on how the Blue/Black belt was representing it.

If he was upfront about it being a karate black belt then the brown was a dick, otherwise.... smash the shit out of him for trying to pass off a karate bb for bjj.

        I agree with Rivington.
Shut the hell up and train.

Even if it was a legit school, wouldn't the brown belt have still been able to tool the lower belts? So why bother picking on them at all? Why not just talk to the "black belt"?

I think the bigger question is:

"Is any BJJ better than no BJJ at all?"

and the answer is a resounding maybe.

Maybe any BJJ is fine if you are a crazed redneck who will travel all over The South to learn from any one they can find. Maybe not if training under a blue belt in combatives is all you ever do.

In the interest of full disclosure I will disclose all the details that I know, plus a brief history of how I got peripherally involved in this situation.

My friend "Aquinas" who lives in Satsuma, La had asked me if I could find any decent martial arts schools near him so he could enroll his kids. When we finally got togather, I had located a judo place in Denham Springs and conducted a thorough investigation on it, by which I mean I asked Coach Josh about the place.

I presented my findings to him, but in the meantime he'd decided to ignore the advisor and grabbed a flyer for a place in Holden, La, from the cursory examination I gave the flyer the school's name was Elite Martial Arts and the words "BJJ", Brazilian Jiujitsu, and MMA were prominently displayed. I did notice the website listed was "something something karate.com" which set off a couple of alarm bells.

I asked Aquinas to hold off till I checked up on this place. While I was training at Coach Josh's Saturday, I asked one of the senior brown belts (whom I will refer to as Double J to distinguish him from the dojo Stormer) if he knew anything about a bjj school in Holden.

              Double J:
Yeah, X just dojo stormed them.

              Me:
              X did what?

              Double J:
It was a karate guy teaching jits in a black belt, and X put on a white belt and went down there and smashed everybody. And afterwards the guy said he was a midnight blue belt in jiujitsu and that's what he was wearing to teach in. Isn't that weird?

              Me:
              Yeah.

              Double J:
Dude, if you want I could promote you to a twilight purple belt but you have to put glitter all over your belt.

              Me:
              No thanks.

And so I pondered and picked over the whys and wherefores all day Saturday and Sunday, and then I said,
"Self, we're gonna cut all this navel gazing out. We're gonna post this whole mess on Bullshido and let those guys ponder and pick it over."

And that's where you all came in.

Dude...If this is what I think it is, that's not what happened. From what I saw the guy didn't even grapple the instructor.

Why don't you put up Josh's video? The female blue belt wrecked more shit than he did, truthfully.

Looks like Josh took it down. Too bad. Boring in bits, but the female blue belt was wrecking House

See, that why I didn't comment. If we are talking about the video in the VIP section, your training partner tried to make himself look better to you.

The video was almost exactly the opposite of your conversation. The two people followed all rules and were respectful of the teacher and the instruction IMO.

While I agree with Rivington's comment, there is an entire undercurrent your description misses. Oh and this is why secondhand information is kicked out of MABS.

been gone awhile, did Vince suddenly become anything more than a troll?

Depends on where he posts, which is no different from me. So, I don't think he is a troll, but he does like to troll.
