Dan Horgan aka Danny Horgan aka Daniel Horgan "Challenges" "Experts" to "Fights"

    Hey guys,

My name is Dan Horgan, and as part of a video blog, I'm going from school to school to fight experts of various fighting styles in full-contact matches after only six months of training in Wing Chun.

I understand that Wing Chun is an art that takes years and years to master, so I'm not even pretending to think people who have studied the art for long periods of time will respect what I'm doing. But because Wing Chun is a concept-based fighting art, I will apply many of the concepts I've learned, couple them with my western boxing background, and give complete and utter hell to anyone willing to step up to the plate as a part of this vlog.

Anyway, I figured people on this forum would be interested in the vlog. Peace.

Vlog - I'm using Wing Chun to fight experts of various styles

We'll essentially be taking certain common rules in sport fighting and modifying them to ensure we keep people's attention. Following are the rules and restrictions that will be in place for the match:

    -Weight limit of 165 pounds

-No striking to the head or neck (part of the blog's purpose is to spread the awareness of the short- and long-term dangers of head striking - I will soon explain in detail the research I plan on promoting).

-No striking to the kidneys or back

-No biting, eye gouging, or fish hooking

    -No striking to knees

    -No small joint manipulation.

    -No striking to groin

-Takedowns are allowed, but ground-fighting is not (this is simply to keep people's attention; people would just watch pro MMA if that's what they wanted to see).

    -Two 2-minute rounds

-The only equipment will be 6-oz MMA gloves, groin protection, and potentially a Heart Guard.

Because none of this will be officially sanctioned, there will be no official judges. I'll let the goons on Youtube decide who won the fight.

To answer your other questions, I got booted from my Kwoon as soon as they found out I was partaking in this blog. That's understandable so I don't hold anything against them. And yes, I've seen all three movies. Donnie Yen is a baddd dude haha

I support this fully. Ignore anyone who discourages you, you're a brave man and I hope you keep us posted with footage of your success.

Remember the words of a great man, the Black Knight from Monty Python: " Just a flesh wound!".

Appreciate that a bunch. A lot of martial artists will naturally assume that this is about machismo and ego. But I'm just trying to show that the average guy can do amazing things through hard work and bravery. Looking forward to talking to you on this forum. Cheers!

Let us know when you have actual videos of your matches up. Please avoid any MMA, Muay Thai, Judo, Kyukoshin, and boxing gyms.

          Thank you.

That's pretty hardcore training there buddy.

I have some questions Ginger Ninja.

Under what rules do you propose to fight under?

What does your coach think about this challenge?

Have you seen the movie Ip Man?

I respect your ideas and will to do this. Hopefully it will work out and provide much entertainment for the MA community. I can't help but wonder if you're just on some mission to gain publicity or on a mission to gain some form of notoriety for this expedition. Sorry if that sounds a little negative but what are your motivations in doing this?

First, you stated you would go from kung fu school to KF school fighing masters, then you went on to mention several other non-chinese martial arts that you wanted to challenge as well. Of course, everyone will expect you to fail miserably. I personally am surprised you somehow think you will win against these potential masters. However, with a little thought I think you may do okay given your boxing background in certain circumstances. How long did you train boxing and where? Who taught you wing chun for the 6 months? If you fight mainly traditional martial artists who are more interested in the authenticity and historical value of their art and less in fighting you may do okay. Also, you may face the "we train the deadly street fighting" argument as a cop out for loosing because they couldn't use their most effective street techniques because you "would die".

Also, what rule set do you plan to fight under? NHB UFC style fights? Point sparring? Or will you go the History Channel's Human Weapom route and challenge masters in their respective sparring rule set?

Again I think you are very ambitious for undertaking this personal challenge. I hope it works out the way you are imagining it will. If you are interested in challenging some Filipino Martial artists I know guys in Cleveland OH who are likely to oblige you. I wouldn't mind joining in too but i'm in FL and if you follow my posts here you will learn i'm recovering from a pretty serious knee injury. But, I imagine you'll want to fight guys from many styles so for FMA I may be able to help, send me a PM if you're interested. Good luck! You'll need it.

I think you'll find a lot of guys that talk a big game but really don't want to put themselves in a situation where they could be beaten by a beginner on the Internet. We've seen it plenty of times here. Were you to have stuck with boxing, you'd probably find a lot more guys willing to throw hands. How long did you box? What was your record? Why wing chun?

                    Damn after watching this vid:

I call troll, I'll be surprised if this ever develops into anything more than a few backyard fights with other martial arts newbs involving another amateur style vs. style disappointing flail fest. I actually put a little thought into my last post, that's what I get for feeding trolls.

what exactly is your background in western boxing, because you move like shit.

not that it matters because nothing is ever gonna eventuate from this.

I don't move at all in that video. A lot of Wing Chun is about a rooted stance.

My boxing background stems mostly from being self-taught from parking-lot fights. I'm certainly no expert in the field of boxing nor Wing Chun.

Please, stop posting and do one of two things:
                            1) Stop trolling this CMA forum
                            2) Grow up and get some real training.

Self taught was what I thought, but I am glad you admitted to it. Everyone, please exit to YMAS.
