Why do people still train in striking?

Don't get me wrong, striking of course is a necessary part of fighting, but all this focus on the striking range of fighting just seems excessive considering the realities of combat. All you need to do to nullify a striker is cover up, close the distance and grab him.

I mean if you can get lucky and hit a guy and drop him then good for you, but why risk it when you can just force the clinch and take him down, then punch him while he's on his back?

I see so many dedicating hours and hours of training into developing a skillset that really only is useful in a kickboxing match, I don't get you people.

Because punching someone in the face is fun.

.....why bother grappling or punching when you can just shoot someone? why take the chance. just shoot them with a sniper rifle from like 200 yards away..

and that was a particularly... n00bish post from a long-time member.

I've never seen so many fat chicks in short skirts in my entire life in one place. Or so many guys in drag in public,or maybe they were all guys in drag.

                          *Edit*

I forgot about Mardis Gras in the French Quarter. Other than that, though...
