    Breaking the Laws of Physics

Today I got Seoinage'd by a 15 year old girl , it was not compliant. I weight 250lb, she weighs around 100-110lb. I was told not to go all out in shutting her down, so i dropped my centre of gravity and hoped for the best. Now for some reason, my weight was divided by 0, a minature singularity was opened and i was catapulted on to my head.

Have you ever had the laws of physics broken on you before. If so, please share. :LOLnotext:

When training for a pankration tournament with my old kung fu group, the visiting sifu lifted me off the ground in a fireman's carry while we were grappling. He was a small guy (maybe 130-140lbs) and I'm pretty big (6', 200lbs), and as soon as I was off the ground and supported on his shoulders, I was worried that he would collapse straight down or hurt himself or drop me, but he was very controlled and rolled me over to my back smoothly into a north/south. I was very impressed at the time.

Did it make you question the very fabric of space and time though? I mean, i wasnt carried, it was kind of like "lol adorable" ....."bang". I suppose if i have to be serious though. It was a testament to commiting to a throw. There was no way that could have been done slowly.

I once had a Matrix moment when sparring. There were 5 or 6 of us on a Sunday evening, the rules were throw and then continue into groundwork for ippon through submission or hold.

I had a couple of matches against similarly matched opponents and the my last one was against my coach. I was pretty shagged.

He attacks with an O soto gari and the whole world slows down, I can see him entering in slow mo, the reaping leg goes up and then I'm slowly disconnecting from the earth and rising so that my whole body is level about 4ft above the mat, then I fall slowly to earth and WHACK!

As I hit the mat, then I'm being held down... no I'm being subbed and I've lost.

The whole world slowing down during being throw with O soto was weird, though.

This is actually an interesting effect. Ive experienced this in other MA's. I wonder if it is the minds response to something you judge as going wrong. Adrenalin is released and for a moment, you can assess exactly what has happened and why it went awry.

He's thrown me a billion times, but that and an Okuri ashi barai he threw me with stick with me because the world slowed down.

            Very odd.

I did a tiny bit of judo, just once a week for a year, when a judo instructor came in and taught a class at my BJJ gym every Wednesday. (He’s awesome; I miss those classes but am so damn busy…) I say this to make clear that (1) I suck at judo and (2) I know I suck at judo.

I have, though, landed one or two uchimatas that, while I’m sure they looked terrible, were at least decent to the point of working, and they had a surreal feeling. When I launched the other guy into the air, it briefly felt as though he were weightless, suspended in the air as though he were floating. The hikite action did not feel so much like pulling him as it did rearranging him while he was floating, in preparation for gravity to take back over.

If I ever manage that on someone who is not both vastly junior to me and much smaller, I shall be proud indeed.

That Captain Kirk throw (tomoe nage?) kinda feels like its cheating physics when you're thrown with it properly.

People report the same time-slowing-down effect sometimes during car and plane crashes.

It happened to me once when somebody tried to stab me in the stomach and I grabbed the blade with my bare hand. I can remember thinking 'this is fucking stupid, but it's too late to change your mind' quite clearly.

Interesting though. Im so tempted to see if it can be replicated tomorrow.

                      That’s probably true.

My mate, who's a bit of a loon, and a Judo 3rd dan, once had someone pull a knife on him in Camden and demand his money. Without thinking about it he grabbed the mugger and threw him as hard as he could with O soto gari and then fucked off.

Definitely not recomended, but it is possible with a good dose of luck.

It was only when he woke up the next day and thought about what he'd done that he realised how close to death he had been.

I was 16. My training at the time consisted of 2 years of childhood Judo (before I turned 12), and point sparring TKD & Karate.

Now I'm more experienced.. I wouldn't be at that kind of party.
