    Silat makes me sad.

Silat takedowns look super cool. However, I can't see any of them working against a resisting opponent that doesn't really want to look cool falling on the ground. Has anyone seen any live Silat takedowns? Is there any video of it so I can not be so sad?

That made me sadder. I have no idea why they kept stopping.

Ok they were scoring throws. Just really bad video.

I found the rules though. :( Not head contact and you have to use Silat moves and stepping patterns.

Did that guy who got dropped on his head towards the beginning die? That was a vicious throw.

I was going to mention that most of the highlights in that video were illegal/no points. :(

I learned a few silat stretching/warmups at one of the DB gatherings. It was kinda similar to some of the drills in Scott Sonnon's Grappler's Toolbox DVD. Neat stuff. Also one of the younger guys (Top Dog's son, I believe) used some of the characteristic silat footwork (the kneeling kind) in a knife vs knife bout, and did so skillfully and effectively.

That's about all I have to say about silat.

I want to see the head twisting sliding past people style throws. I guess no one can actually make them work?

                      Damn you're picky.

The closest thing I've found looks like a bar and chancery throw to me - 2:08.

I can't find any of the real snakey looking takedowns.

I don't have videos handy but I have used some similar throws in sparring a few times, very few. It is very low percentage against a Judo player or a wrestler but they are possible in certain instances. The problem seems to be that most of the people who train these types of techniques don't actually learn to use them against resistant opponents (Limalama shares a similar problem to silat in that respect). My only advantage in that instance is that I actually worked a great deal with MMA trained fighters and have never been affraid to get kicked or thrown or punched in persuit of figuring out my art. Can they be done? I'd give it a mythbuster "plausible."

I'm gonna be like one of those wing chun jokers who posts an example from a sportfighter totally untrained in the chun to show the chun in action:

Can you make a triangle choke work? (N.B. This is the same guy as in the video.)
