I run this gym. My daughter is one of the senior most students for the kids. My daughter is 9 almost 10. She's 3 belts away from "black". She's been doing this since she turned 4. I give her a private lesson twice a week including Jiu Jitsu. She said so I'll be able to get a blackbelt? I said not until your 16. You can take the test before that but I don't award until your 16.

I wonder what the styles are? I didn't really pay attention to those details.

One of them was Shorin-Ryu, one was Goju, one was Shotokan (I think) and the other was a weapons style.

Shorin ryu has katas with similar names to the Shotokan kata I was taught. Goju is different. I don't know if the Shorin kata are actually the same as the shotokan ones because I've never studied Shorin ryu,

First kata was wansu, which she performed terribly.

Wow, and that's one of my favourites (though admittedly not one that I practiced very often) I thought her form was just bad but it is, in fact, terrible.

In her defense she is just a kid.

The real tragedy is going to be when she grows up if she ever gets into a situation where she could defend herself or run and decides to throw her chips in with her 4 blackbelts she got when she was ten. Otherwise, who cares how old she is? If she did the work required for the belt to the standards of the testers who are we to say she doesn't deserve it? Quite often, black belt != martial arts badass.

Also on her teaching class, wtf is up with that?
