What's with all the yelling? It makes me feel awkward, is that part of the technique, to make me feel awkward?

*Sigh* I started karate at age 4 and had significantly better form by the time I was her age and had also competed/won several tournaments. Yet I didn't get a black belt until a few years later (I think at 10 I was just grading to 3rd kyu). Why? For the simple reason that I wasn't ready for it in terms of experience, understanding and discipline and that's the way it should be.
Someone shouldn't be given a sho dan just because "oh, she's so much better than the other kids her age". She moves like someone who has no idea of the purpose behind the movements. Even her kiais are mistimed! She doesnt have the fundamental understanding of technique that SHOULD be a requisite for anyone grading beyond 3rd kyu.

Well, you weren't a blonde girl whose daddy owned the dojo. Deal with it.

I run this gym. My daughter is one of the senior most students for the kids. My daughter is 9 almost 10. She's 3 belts away from "black". She's been doing this since she turned 4. I give her a private lesson twice a week including Jiu Jitsu. She said so I'll be able to get a blackbelt? I said not until your 16. You can take the test before that but I don't award until your 16.

I'm just saying that could be just a junior black; it did have a white stripe through the middle.

(And yes, her form was bad)

There are 2 youth (12 or 13 yr old) BB's at my school - they are allowed to wear their black belts in the kids classes, but not in the adult classes. When they train with us, they're treated as new students.

I wonder what the styles are? I didn't really pay attention to those details.
