this has got to be one of the most polite intros I have read in quite some time.
Welcome to the site and that scraping feeling you are experiencing is the callouses growing on your skin in order for you to survive outside Newbietown.
Look around and enjoy everything the site has to offer and remember:
Just because someone is questioning/insulting/teasing/challenging you, doesn't mean they don't like you, they just wish to make you stronger.

Yeah, it's interesting how different the perspectives of the instructors are. At the JKD School I'm at now, the instructor is a competitive grappler who added in karate then went to JKD under Inosanto.
Our instructor is constantly referencing Larry Hartsell (the Inosanto grappling guru and all around badass) in our classes, and we do more ground technique than I understand most JKD schools do. He also brings in weapons from time to time, and we cross-train with the Kali guys some too.
The Ted Wong instructor was all about standup and didn't believe ground training was necessary if you could move properly and strike effectively.
