A question about the Bujinkan

Yeah, that's definitely not cool. For one, it points towards an abusive teacher, and that's never good. Secondly, when he freaked out, that was his ego getting the best of him, and it shows insecurity. I used to teach kung fu, and I always laughed it off if one of my students caught me in something I couldn't escape from. I've seen other teachers, though, that won't struggle with their students for fear of looking less than perfect.
It's been noted before that the styles where they hit each other hardest are often the most compliant ones too. A lot of them justify their lack of live training by pointing to how hardcore they are, with regular bruises, hyperextensions etc in practice. That doesn't make their training better though.

He's a dick; is it a university sponsored club using university premises? If so I would be getting his sad sack club kicked out of the facilities. Either way, avoid him like the plague.
If I catch my Bujinkan instructor with something he can’t get out of or out he way of he says “good one Dougie” and we work out ways to stop being caught like that and ask guys from other MAs what they do to see if we can tailor it for us.
It's not so much a question about the Bujinkan as a question about an insecure tit of an instructor though.

That’s probably how his "sensei" taught him, now he doesn’t know any better. I think, especially recently the traditional martial arts instructors have become very defensive about there martial arts, because you have bjj or submission wrestlers etc... asking them "well how would you escape this" and they cant cause they have never been in that situation or whatever the case may be, so they tend to stand in front of the class beating up one of there students to show how effective there style is, but the poor student is just a glorified punching bag and will never challenge a position or move because that would be "disrespectful".

Assuming this is truly a pattern of behavior, the instructor is acting immature and sounds like a bad teacher. The Booj doesn't have a monopoly on that. It's really more about the instructor than any system or organization he's associated with.
A pattern of abusive behavior should be brought to the university's attention.

Did the student just jump on the instuctor and say "What would you do from here?" while squeezing or did the instructor allow the hold be put on? It makes little difference since there should be a saftey valve in training for unwanted situations. It's called tapping out.
It sounds like the instructor was avenging a bruised ego, which isn't ok.
/another university mata leon story
an aikido instructor was telling us the importance of keeping posture, to illustrate the point he got on all fours and said: "Now he," (me, I was uke at the time), "can do nearly anything." There was a pause where I was ment to patomime a kick the the head or something. I bent over and put on a RNC with out securing position.
Instructor: "Oh, you're doing your wrestling again, well I would do this>" He rolls towards me and I put the hooks in. (Better late than never).
Instructor pauses again, I wait for and escape "from her I'd just hit him." He patomimes a rearward elbow, I keep my head tucked in.
Another pause, I let go and we go back to training.
I changed my mind about aikido being the deadly that day but still have lots of respect for that coach.
