I love my Soke - seriously, I do.

First off let me start by saying true Martial Artist do not go around making fun of or laughing at others. Martial Arts was started many years ago with self preservation and self discipline in mind as well as to better better ones self. Secondly I have trained With Soke Joe Miller since I was 5 years old at Yokota Japan back when he was a Shihan. Soke Miller is who he says he is he has the scrolls to prove it and Nidai Soke Okuyama's has recently renewed his License if you go to WWW.Hakkoryu-seishin.us as well as WWW.TaizanRyu.com you will be able to see not only the scrolls but recent Photos of Soke Joe Miller with Nidai Soke okuyama at the Hombu Dojo in Omiya, Japan. as a long time student of Soke Miller i would appreicate the bashing to quit everyone has their strengths and their weakness Soke Miller is very proficient in hakkoryu otherwise Nidai Soke would not have granted him his Menkyo Kaiden sandikichu Shihan License. So again please the bashing must quit we are all here to learn and advance our own skills. We must all honor the memories of the many that came before use who have given their all to create this priceless arts and honor them by helping one another and not laughing at each other

If there's one thing which grips my fucking shit is when Japanophile westerners pontificate about their beloved masters, when they can't even get the method of using Japanese titles associated with their Grand Poobah correct...

WHICH GO AFTER NOT BEFORE A FUCKING FAMILY NAME

First off let me say you are a disgrace. You have no idea what true martial artist do and your post shows A LOT of ignorance of history. Before trying to preach go educate your self.

Here is a clue go read up on Gichin Funakoshi and Choki Mutobu and their interactions with each other. They weren't cordigal. Also read up on Funakoshi's pre WWII attitudes about how to deal with round eyes such as yourself. Then come back and tell us what "true" martial artist should do. Hell tell us what constitutes a "true" martial artist. Then you can apologize.

PS definitely read up on the term SOKE because just from reading this you don't know what the hell you are talking about. As pointed out SOKE is an honorific which means it goes AFTER the family name.
Menkyo Kaiden does not equal SOKE. He would only be SOKE if he was held of Okuyama's art, which IIRC would never be turned over to a non-japanese.

          Because I'm a nice guy..

Pay particular attention to the following:
In concluding, it is difficult to condone the use of obscure Japanese terminology to describe American social practices for which perfectly acceptable English words already exist. One must struggle to imagine how any non-Japanese could call himself a "soke" in English except as a joke.

Soke, a Japanese title meaning "head of the family," and is usually used to denote the headmaster of a school of Japanese martial arts.

You need to be quiet whilst the adults discuss this.

Seriously, did you even bother to read the article I linked into this thread ?

                          Idiot.

No, that is the misappropriation of the word by Westerners. It is "usually used that way in those particular countries. No, it doesn't make it right.

One of the above posters is fluent in Japanese the other has a conversational understanding. Both have knowledge on the honorific uses of these titles.
