The STL TD #3 Planning Thread

So, here's the deal. I normally throw these things together, and the last two have taught us some important things about event planning and cohesiveness. As in, you need them.

So, I'm gonna try and get those pesky things out of the way early this year, so that we can we can get truly efficate up in this bitch.

    I'm looking for 3 things:

    - Are you interested in coming?
    - When's a good time frame?
    - Any suggestions from the past STL crew?

As for me, I learned that you need to set a rather solid schedule if you want people to actually get on the floor and boogie. Therefore, my PROPOSED THROWDOWN would look something like this:

STL TD #3: Black History Month!!!
February 10, 2007 (Starts at high noon)
10$ mat fee, bring your own gear, soft mats and Huge Judo Black Belt provided
    Belleville Judo Club
    3325 South Belt West
    Belleville, Illinois 62226

    Schedule is as follows:

    12:00-12:30
    Entourage arrival, stretch them muscles

    12:30-1:15
    Just rollin'

    1:15-2:00
    Just hittin'

    2:00-3:00
    Full contact, sucka

    3:00-4:00
    Whateva

    Afterwards:
    Food, son, lotsa food

    After that:
    Alcohol at the crib

Dem's just a few ideas, let's make this one work with some efficiency, yah?

Jesus fuck, Belleville is my home town. I went to Belleville West (where it used to be, not where it is now). If I didn't have a double college load at that time, I could take some leave so I can come play. You're at Scott AFB, I take it? I'm currently stationed in Millington, TN (Navy CPO).

      How about mid-March--ish?

That's not inconceivable. I try to work it so everybody can come any enjoy the violence. We can definitely make that happen.

Christ, we need to just forget that ever happened. This year, there will be NO PANDERING to the tippy tappy crowd if they want to be involved.

I think I am able to make it if you guys don't mind me showing up. Sundays are the best for me.

Also looking forward to the drinks after. I couldn't make it to the last one but hopefully I can get away from the shop long enough to participate keep me posted. I would like to see if what I am taking is wasting my time . I know I enjoy the class but still wonder if the fancy pajamas are actually teaching me something worth while. Who knows I might be the next to "see the light", but I hope what I am learning is worth a little, but with how most people talk I have my doubts, and then again I don't.

What would I need to bring with me? I know a cup and mouth gaurd are a given. What else would you suggest I might need airman claus. Asking now just to make sure I have all that I need to participate. My ground work still needs alot of work but am still willing to let you guys show me a few things. I am never against being taught something. Blind Fury explained a little of the ground game to me and I think I learned a lot from him. Well till next time Peace.

I think that a good pair of MMA sparring gloves are a good investment no matter what art you practice... they're very versatile. Combat Sports has a good line of gloves that they sell, it's where I get mine.

Most other stuff is up to you. Most folks bring only what they need to hit and be hit.

Mantisenator looking forward to seeing you at the throwdown. I am interested in going over some of the differences in the system of mantis that you take, that are different than the style I take. I am totally into all different kinds of fighting arts and intrigued by the differences therein. I missed the last one but will try to make it to this one. Really interested in doing some of the hands with you and see if the the 7* is like the 8-step. From what I have read the 7* just has different leggs the rest should be pretty much the same but I could be wrong just interested is all.

I'll be there. I gots boxing gloves, MMA gloves (padded ones) and shin guards.

We definitely need some kind of schedule. That one looks good. Another good idea might be a handout for everybody listing real names and interests.

So, for instance, my entry on the sheet says:
Don Gwinn, 300+ lbs., beginner BJJ.
                          Roll? YES
Striking? No experience, happy to try it.
                          MMA? YES
                          Kai's might say:
Airman Kai, 225 lbs., Beginner MMA, experienced Muay Thai.
                          Rolling? YES
                          Striking? YES
                          MMA? YES
We get that kind of info from everyone and cluster people with similar interests together. For instance, anybody who puts "NO" under striking gets put into that group. Everyone gets a copy of the handout on the day, so everyone has a list of names of people who said they were coming and what they said they were interested in. Nobody is pressured to do something they don't want to do, nor excluded from something they want to try, but there's a basis for starting out.

Last time was like a junior high dance.

Well, we'd be happy to have you. Anybody with a positive attitude is welcome, and you only have to do what you want to do. If you're an EXTREME beginner, be sure to get in on the grappling parts. Also, where are you from?

                              SO,

Don brought up a good idea, one that we used last year, just not very well. This time, we should be able to make a decent schedule based on people's level of participation.

Everybody needs to post what they'll be getting in on, just like Don already did.

                              Here's mine:

Airman Kai, 225 lbs., Beginner MMA, experienced Muay Thai.
                              Rolling? YES
                              Striking? YES
                              MMA? YES
