Just a little venting on my part.
I decided to see what the Crossfit scene was like locally (Montreal) and discovered to my great joy that there were 3 Crossfit gyms in town. Happy that I might get to give it a try I checked out their websites to get membership information.
Holy fuck, I know that Crossfit is the new "it" workout thing but the pricing ranges from $100 - $150 per month and at least one requires a minimum 6 or 12 month contract.
This is fucking ridiculous McDojo stuff. For that I can join a good BJJ gym and have access to unlimited BJJ, MMA and Muai Thai classes. I currently lift at a snazzy gym that occupies prime real estate in a popular well traffiqued shopping area, has all kinds of classes I can attend (should I be into that) and nice locker facilities and I don't pay anywhere near that. These Crossfit gyms rent empty industrial area (usually cheap), buy used equipment that can be easily banged around, and the "locker" facilities barely meet code, so what the hell is up with the pricing?
From what I can tell quite a few of the Crossfit workouts don't require any special equipment (or really basic equipment) and can probably be done in my yard. I think I might go that way to give it a shot.
