    HALO

High Altitude Low Oxygen. Sorry Airborne guys this ain't about jumping.

My new duty station is 3300 feet above sea level and the air is thin. I'm having trouble running. Any tips on a training regiment to acclimate myself to the altitude?

It shouldn't take you more then a month to get used too, and when you travel to lower places the air will feel like soup. It's 5140 where I live, so . . . .

    You get over it.

      Run downhill. Towards the air.

Your body will naturally begin to produce a higher level of red blood cells to compensate for the oxygen deficit. You'll be fine once you have a chance to acclimate yourself.

Is there anyway to train at a lower altitude? Living at a high elevation and "coming down" to train will reduce whatever health risks associated with lack of oxygen. Olympians do this, so I'm told.

yo it's crazy i was visiting my hometown sacramento recently at sea level and after taking shots and drinking beer all night I was able to run back to my buddie's house 3 miles away like it was nothing! This High altitude training really makes a difference. It's crazy cuz whether running or walking it felt like nothing! in fact, i think it was easier to run and sprint than it was to just meander around downtown.
