diet soda...will make you GAIN wieght?

    To get this topic started-

    Vocabulary
Aspartame: (AKA NutraSweet, Equal, or Spoonful) a sweetener used instead of sugar in "sugar-free" foods, such as diet sodas and other foods.

Formaldehyde: an absolute toxin used primarliy to preserve tissue specimens.

I read an interesting article that will make some of you flinch....it made me think i don't want to drink diet again............

the article started off with the author describing her mother and how she was extremely sick. her mother had undergone several tissue biopsies and other surgery because she was so sick even walking was a major chore. she was in extreme pain all the time and doctors thought she has MS (multiple sclerosis). turns out, her daughter read an article on "sugar-free" products such as diet soda that contained ASPARTAME and how it is effecting people and causing MS symtoms. well the woman stopped drinking diet soda and within 32 hours was feeling better. in fact, she could walk a bit more easily. a study was done on MS patients to see if they drank diet or consumed other "sugar-free" products....turned out, most patients with MS drank it. after taking patients off diet soda and regular soda completely, it was found symptoms were relieved.

this lead to a study that affects most of us.........

the science and health community has wondered what other affects the aspartmae has on people. they looked into diet soda further. here's the scoop:
Aspartame is dangerous because when the temperature of the sweetener exceeds 86 degrees F, the wood alcohol in aspartame converts to fermaldehyde and then to formic acid (the poison found in strings of fire ants), which in turn causes metabolic acidosis. the methanol toxicity mimics multiple sclerosis, as well as other conditions. many peopler were diagnosed in error.

*(ENGLISH TRANSLATION: fermaldehyde is a compound, if you will, that destroys the liver. it is a bad chemical that will harm the body. metabolic acidosis:A condition in which the blood is too acidic. It may be caused by severe illness or sepsis (bacteria in the bloodstream). you will notice things like shooting pains in the arms and legs, cramps, vertigo, dizziness, tinnitis, joint pain, depression etc.) )

HOW IT MAKES US GAIN WEIGHT IN ADDITION TO THESE OTHER NICE HEALTH RISKS:
Diet soda is NOT a diet product. it is artificial. it is chemically altered and aspartame containing products actually contain sodium (though on most diet it says 1% sodium) and causes cravings of carbohydrates. it is far more likely to make you gain weight. diet soda and other products containing aspartame contain fermaldehyde, which stores in lipid (or fat) cells, particularly in the hips and thighs due to the nature of their storage. a study involving the removal of diet products from a normal diet with NO INCREASE in exercise found that patients lost 19 pounds on average.

so....bottom line.....don't drink diet. the health problems are rediculous and not worth it.

I'll never understand why so many people drink soda in the first place (diet or regular). Consuming large amounts of empty calories makes no sense. I guess it's just a lack of discipline.

Please link to original article or explain how to find it.

Your message would be so much more effective if you didn't misspell several words such as 'ridiculous' and even the compound in question, formaldehyde.

I don't drink either anymore, and have stopped chewing gym a while ago. I just bring a toothbrush and toothpaste to work and also brush before heading out.
I never recommend drinking this garbage, go search up dangers of aspartame and carbonated drinks. Y'all shouldn't be taking in too much caffiene anyways.

Thanks for this thread, I just realised why my girl has problems getting to bed. As we move along I'm going to have to completely overhaul her diet.

Think for a second. If aspartame (which is falling out of favor, anyway, BTW) actually turned to formaldehyde at a 1:1 ratio whenever it was heated about 86 degrees everyone who every drove pop home on a hot day would have chugged a metric fuckton of it.

This is science bullshido put forth by nat food people that want to think for you.

          Defy them.

True, methenol is produced by digestion, formaldehyde can be produced from methenol, but check this out: Your body generates more digesting fruit or tomato juice then diet or real soda. It's essentially harmless - your stomach capacity would prevent you from poisoning your self this way.

Another popular version of this UL wrongly blames various diseases on diet soda.

The sodium thing is a) innacurate - diet sodas are actually accurately labeled as to how much sodium they contain, which is a fair amount, btw and b) a new varient on the "not really diet" ul. If you can't snopes check every email, at least look at the back of a can of soda - the 1% is your RDA, which means it is about 35mg, pretty normal for a serving of some kind of food.

Diet soda has almost NO caloric or carb value. It's water, c02, and some flavorings, and that's about it.

REGULAR soda is actually even a little too maligned - it's only our portions that are out of control. A can of soda is 150 cal, +/- - that's no big deal. That's less then a bagel or many other bread items. It's the american "84 oz KEG OF SUGAR" that kills you.

And while we're on the subject of urban legends about soda, the mormon church, while not something I'm a fan of, does not "own" outright either major cola company - a single percentage point of coke or pepsi is a billion dollar investment and both companies are publicly traded. That one's not health related, but I'm on a debunking spree.

            Formaldehyde... at a 1:1. Okay.

Diet Soda tastes like crap anyway. I like carbonated water with a hint of whatever soda flavor I'm feeling that day. Much healthier and it tastes better.

I've actually got an article about a pro bodybuilder who's workout diet includes "a can of your favorite soda (I use Pepsi)" after lifting.

When I was doing triathlons, a lot of the racers would drink flat coke (or whatever soda) as a carb replacement. I could understand if a person drinks it for the carbs, but most drink it because they have to drink something that tastes good. I know a lot of people who drink soda all day long. That's just a lack of discipline.

I'm just not a fan of empty calories, whether it be food or drink. I drink to hydrate. I drink almost entirely water. Sports drink if I need it. Fruit juice every once in a while, but pretty rare and I usually cut it with water.

Now, beer, wine, scotch and vodka is a different story. :qgreenjum

I'm thinking he uses soda for an insulin spike after working out. And he said use normal soda, not diet.

Yeah, other than weightgainers, I usually just drink water. But as for empty calories, soda isn't bad if you're bulking.

Nobody will ever know the truth about a product that is a multi-million dollar industry, you'll have to figure things out by yourself.

Gotta be careful of the amount of sugar in the Post Lift nutrition. If you have too much you'll feel comatose after an hour due to the Insulin spike

Yeah, insulin spike is not good. The triathletes used it replace glycogen. I've heard marathon runners do this also. Obviously, diet soda would not work for that.

Diet soda just irritates me on principle. "Soda makes me fat because it has way too much sugar, but it tastes soooooo good and I'm sooooo undisciplined that I just can't regulate the amount I drink, so I'll drink diet, that way I won't have to exercise any self control and can still keep my weight down." PATHETIC!

Wait, thought that was 86 degrees C, this is stupid now.

What makes you say that? It could cause cancer and people would still drink it.

There's no need to lie to the american public - they aren't worth the effort. A clever commercial and they're brains will do the decieving for you.
