But by now you must realize of course that all this competition stuff you are learning is useless on 'the streets' and you need to go back to ninjering to learn the real deadly...
Or not.

This was a great read. I am consider writing my own version but the long and short of it is "Didn't wrestle when I lived in Iowa but did do Tae Kwon Do which was dumb, later found BJJ and Judo. Doing Judo hoping to add striking/Sambo." But I have some dumb stories about the shit I used to believe worked.

All of us have dumb stories about the shit we used to belive worked, especially if you're old enough to come of age in the 80s or before. I wouldn't necessarily say there was more misinformation then than there is now, but at least now there is more readily available good information to negate the bullshit.

In fact, I think I got into an argument with someone on this site when it was McDojo.com about how Combat Ki was a real thing and that everyone's minds were just closed to the truth. I told you all at one point in those days that I dreamed of training in Bujinkan and wearing tabi and learning the stealth secrets of the Ninja, that I was chubby and wanted an art that I could adapt. You guys told me not to and that I was a dumb kid.
I never did, and you were right. I have my visits to McDojo to thank for that.Last edited by XXIV; 12/31/2013 2:30am, .

(a corollary to this is seeing youtube videos of arts I'd only read about previously, and thinking "well ... that sure didn't live up to the hype")

I am not good at telling stories but this one might be fun. It is about one of the few "street fights" I had. Hope "Chinese Ninjas" are allowed here.
Middle School. Training some Kung Fu. Never had one minute of sparring.
A friend started with me and had to tell everyone that we are training Kung Fu. As you probably know there are always the kinds of people that feel threatened when they find out you train a MA and want to test you.
I was on my way home from school. From far I see that guy from school.
He was much taller than me. Was hanging out with his group, They were kind of the bully type and he was acting as a leader.
At that day, I was going alone so easy potential target. Plus it was in an small alley were not much was going on. Perfect to mess with people.
Was thinking of avoiding it but they would see it and think I am scared of them which would make me a potential future target. Also I didn't want to give in. Not going to change direction because of some idiots.
I fell a bit of an adrenaline rush. I remember my training. Wonder what I would do if I get into a fight. Hope I don't kill them. I would get into trouble if I kill them. Yes I was worried about them. It did not test my Kung Fu yet so did not know how powerful it was.
They saw me and blocked the road. The leader was rambling something about me giving him money for right of passage. Of course I would not. I just walked straight trough them.
The leader tried to imitate kung fu staces, like what you know from the movies. Was challenging me to fight him. I ignored and walked away.
He starts kicking me in the back. I turn around. He launches a front kick at me. I step back with my one foot. He has overcommitment the attack. He slips and lands painfully on his back.
I am not sure what happened and consider if I should use the chance to finish him off. He looks confused and his minions don't look like they want to jump on me. I decide to walk away.
That is how I "won" a street fight.
Later I figured all the painful Kung Fu stance training had paid off. He was on the ground while I was standing so you could count it as a success.
I decide to be more secretive about my MA training to avoid future challenges. It should take many more year before I start doubting the power of my Kung Fu.
Moral of the story: You can win a fight without doing anything when your opponent does not know how to kick.Last edited by killface; 12/31/2013 4:26pm, .

I don't even know where to start, but MMAA which I guess stands for MMA Mixed Martial Arts according to their site just broke my brain.Last edited by plasma; 1/01/2014 1:51am, .
