I had another COL dream last night, but this one was really interesting. In the first part, the COL members were responding to Kimmie as usual, except that they were exchanging knowing looks as if agreeing to humor her. Later on they were conspiring to help each other pack up and leave. Some instructors, such as SHS, were being humored just as Kimmie was, while others helped with the packing. DKP came back to help.

Oddly, I was packing up but my hubby was helping me and I was packing a guitar, and neither my hubby nor my guitar were in my life when I left COL. I recently escaped a verbally abusive female boss, and dreams often connect the past with the present.

Glad you got away from the bad female boss....you've been there, done that.

Of course, bad bosses can be of either gender, and so can good ones. Bad female bosses tend to remind me of Kimmie, while bad male ones tend to remind me of one of my former stepfathers.

          Curious

Hi I've been reading this thread all weekend.
My question... Did anyone get counseling after leaving?
I know someone who's bee out about 4 yrs...
And the once humble person who was reunited with us right after is now acting like kim. Sociopathic behaviors. Words and actions.
I have now backed away from this person. Feeling duped by all the religious talk and fakeness.
I want to believe there is a different person inside.
The cult changed this person to be mean and manipulative.
Wondering if there is any hope for this ex...

Don't let this person get into your "space". Just continue being who you are, and if they want to be part of your group or family or whatever, they'll have to change their behavior. Yes, madame is good at brainwashing, but I am of the belief that any mental process can be reversed given enough time.

Yes I know that now. Unfortunately the damage has been done to her reunited family and new friends....
I want nothing to do with this person now.
Just sad for my wife. Who was a sibling of this messed up person who trusted
              Too much.

I don't know how involved you want to get in this situation, but perhaps you could meet with the family and explain what happens to people in cults. That is if you feel the person is worth your effort at this point. Madame as you know alienates people from their friends and loved ones.
Probably their brain patterns have been seriously altered, and the longer they were in her clutches, the longer it will take to rewire them.
You mention that this person is related to your wife - maybe..just maybe....this person will come to understand that blood is thicker than water.......

The family and myself know all about the cult.
This thread helped me to understand more where they're coming from.
This person was in for over 10 yrs.
I'm not ready to fight for this person...
                  Too many lies and manipulation.
                  We r all stepping back.
Hope one day they will see that family is sacred.

Do what you feel is best then - stepping back and letting them find their own way home is less stress on you and the family. I don't know what prompted this person to leave the cult, but I hope they have enough self respect not to go back.

I received counseling for about seven months between when I left COL and when I left the regular martial arts classes. It really helped me sort out my thoughts and feelings. There's an organization, International Cultic Studies Association, or ICSA, that assists former cult members and their families and friends. I found them later. They might be able to help the loved ones of the former member you know.

Thank you. I will look into that.

I see they've updated the JSW website with two new videos.
What's with these outlandish costumes madame and her top guns are wearing? She looks like a movie version of an evil queen, and MBF in that puke green robe would appear to be one of her high councilors.
The kiddies have interesting mutli colored belts now - I never cease to wonder at her costume ideas.
The people taking the "pledge" have an interesting placement of arms and hands - all they have to do is close their upraised hand into a fist, turn it a bit, and it's a very vulgar gesture.

                            Hello everyone!
I would like to say to everyone who may think this thread is all about destroying the credibility of JSW and TYK ....IT IS NOT!!!

I am a newbie to this site and thread and have only "skimmed" over the 4 parts of "ex JSW students" thread and can honestly say that "facts" are pretty accurate and I am not surprised!

Hey JSW webmaster...your student of the week is getting a bit stale - time to get someone new on there and maybe change those videos from the nineties

One reason JSW failed in VT .... the citizens of the state and the Burlington community are intelligent and can see through BS.....they will give anyone a chance but if you *&$% them they will destroy you....when the community realized what She was doing the money and students started to dry up and TYK, Scott and company started crying foul making accusations about other MA schools etc......12-18 mos later they were ALL gone ..to CA

Oh yeah BTW....I used kick Scott S. ass ALL the time during free sparring and I was 4-5 belts his junior ....he's not the great of a martial artist......boy would he get pissed ..always take it out on me when he was "teaching" with hundreds of repetitive kicks etc..it was ALWAYS worth it because the class understood he was a "wanna be" without the talent!!!!
