Looking back on my own testings, I have mixed feelings. On one hand, I'm still proud of what I accomplished. The martial arts and the non-COL students were the best part of it all. On the other hand, I allowed my life to be taken over and aided, however indirectly, in the takeover of other lives. I wish the testing students well, in spite of Kimmie.

Failed Student, your comment, "madame progresses to get nastier as she ages and gains more followers" is only partly true. I doubt she is gaining more followers. She may be replacing a few that left, but the height of her popularity was in the mid-90s and I doubt she'll ever reach it again.

Kimmie rewards her followers for saying they are nothing without her. In fact the reverse is true. It is her followers who have provided her money, labor, publicity, and her status as a "teacher." And it is she who is ungrateful, not them.

Kimmie seems to be focusing her efforts on recruiting very young kids, judging by the recent picture on the JSW website. I don't know if the parents are aware of what is going on and about Kimmie's rather checkered background, or whether they are just using JSW as a place to leave off their kids for a few hours while they work or need time for themselves.

Unfortunately, young minds are malleable and easily influenced by their environment. Kimmie knows that and is exploiting it...for sure they are enthusiastically cheering for her with a little prompting from SHS and his ilk. The seed is planted.

Except for KSW, who started training as a teenager and stayed in COL through her 30s, and JP, who joined COL with his mom while a child and is still there as a young adult, Kimmie hasn't had much luck with kids. Her Yong Sa Nation group, an attempt to recruit teens, appears to have fizzled out. She can't override parental influence. As with most cult leaders, she has mainly recruited into COL from the 18-25 age group. But that gets increasingly difficult as she gets more embittered and she and her instructors get older.

All the COL kids aside from JP left as young adults. Martial arts training is fun for kids, but COL is not. Kimmie expects COL members to give her more than they take from her in money, labor, and energy. Kids can't do this. Kimmie never recruited kids into COL. She recruited parents if she thought they were productive enough to make up for the burden their children imposed.

A serious question - who is higher in rank...a "Supreme Grandmaster" or a "Great Grandmaster"?

            Interesting -

I searched Bullshido for info on Byong Yu.
According to what I read, he has inflated himself in the same manner as Tae Yun Kim.

            Now searching Young Kimm.

The jury seems to be out on He Young Kimm, so I will leave it to others to decide for themselves...

Interesting tidbit - in digging through the Bullshido archives, it has been inferred by a former student of TYK that the madame may have been more than just a friend of Byong Yu at one point.

I think her usage of 'great' is akin to having a mother, then a grandmother, and then a great grandmother. Since she already thought of herself as 'grand', she had to jump to 'great' right away when she made more grandmasters. Once scottums and fell became grandmasters, she needed to do something to tell the world that she was still more awesome than her students.

Do you have a link to Byong Yu? tyk is the only link I have read here. That name doesn't sound familiar Course I have been gone for 20 years. Thank the Lord.

Just Google it. Also type his name in the box on the first page of Bullshido. It's the fourth entry down - "the creepiest martial artist ever"...

I remember Byong Yu. I recall that he had a little bit of TKD, a little bit of Hollywood, and a lot of ego. Kimmie claimed that he was after her but wanted to dominate her as most Korean men did. She played a message he had left on her answering machine in which he had called her things like "sweetie cakes." I have no way of knowing how "hard to get" she actually played it with him.

What is with all the colors they are wearing? That looks so "feminine". Like a bunch of easter eggs. Sometime's people make comments about training under a female. I can only imagine what they say with those colors.

I hope the students have deep pockets. You know how many books we had to buy 20 years ago when the book came out.

Did you ever find out who is higher in rank? I'm sure she will add more titles to her name so she remains the highest. How sad.

I have to agree...these robes do not impress me as something a "warrior" of either gender would wear.
