    Wasn't it an Americana attempt?

But, yeah, no idea why he tried to finish it from Mount. War's elbow was way too high, and Tommy really wasn't putting any significant pressure on that shoulder. If Tommy'd transitioned to the side and gotten that elbow further down, he'd have had the tap.

...then again, if War had locked that RNC in properly, early in the first round, he'd have gotten the tap.

    Definitely wasn't a technician's battle.

yea it was now that I was thinking about it. Either way it was a quick finish if he transitioned to side mount.

He (Speers) doesn't really know any subs...you can tell because that is how the noobs try to americana me all the time.

well and I understand trying to make something work half assed if you can't be so mobile on someone.... But as far as position before submission goes..... he was passing his guard all night!!!! sliding to side mount would have been cake!

That's how I tried to Americana, too, the first time I did it. My instructor was quick to point out my mistakes in positioning, and I learned the right way to apply the hold. That was in my first week of BJJ.

Is it really possible to go 9-1 in Pro MMA without even that much knowledge of jujutsu?

as much as I critique that little event there..... to be honest, I wasn't impressed as a whole of his fighting ability. If he reminds Hugues of himself as a lad, thats a sad thing..... I guess strength and heart really can take you to the big time! I mean seriously.... how was he not choked out that first round.

If you're a really good wrestler, then yes. Shoot the take down. Then Lay 'n Pray and Ground 'n Pound.

I think if he hadn't been cut, he wouldn't have been able to slip out.

I've seen a screen capture of Frank Shamrock doing an americana wrong. There is also the fact that when you're under the pressure of competing you do stupid shit.

And the problem with the TUF americana wasn't positioning, how he was trying to turn the arm was incorrect (though in part due to WarMachine's defense, I similarly let people work the sub that way all day).

I think more hilarious was the GnP, given that it was red's favorite "technique".

I was just amazed cause it seemed like WM had that sunk in a few times and all it took was Farm boy's free arm to pry the hand loose? LOL I'll have to try that tonight.... was that an Ashida Kim technique?

Did anyone else think farmboy tapped to the choke? Or where my eyes playing tricks on me?

My room mate and I both said that at the same time! When he reached up to move his elbow We could swear to god he was tapping.... then he transitioned to the frantic pushing hands defense.... We must have rewound that a hundred fucking times on our DVR

Yup, my wife and I said it at the same time when he did it. It definitely was not an obvious tap but it looked like he tapped WM's arm but then went back to defending.

He may also have been reaching back to pry the arm, but it certainly looked like a quick tap.

According to Serra's blog, Matt Arroyo also thought it was a tap.

Serra or Sell (I think Sell) screamed the same thing.

EDIT:Appears it was Arroyo. Sounded like Sell.
