Jake shileds is a elite grappler, with titles like:
Strikeforce Middleweight Champion
Elite XC Welterweight Champion
Shooto Middleweight Champion
Grappling Accolades:
2005 ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championships Bronze Medal
2005 Pan American Championships Gold medalist
2005 Gracie open superfight champion
Grapplers Quest advance champion (three times)
He is on a 15 fight winning streak since 2005.
I think this is a pretty good resume vs GSP, I dont think it will be a easy fight but I believe Jake Shields will be the dominate fighter on the ground and will pull off a second round submission.
Now to just hope I'm right.

Shields is worthy of the hype.
He may be one of the most boring fighters to watch but the fact that...
a. He's on a 15 fight winning streak.
b. He has World Class Jiu Jitsu.
c. He went up to middleweight and dominated Dan Henderson - Everybody's talking about GSP's wrestling but if Hendo could'nt keep the fight standing GSP may struggle also.
All go to show he could well be the guy to beat GSP (at Welterweight).
Dont get me wrong If i had to put money on it I would always go with GSP but Shields is more than a worthy opponent.

Shields has a good chance chance on the ground, if he manages to get a hold of GSP, get him down, and keep him down. Which isn't going to be easy considering Shields' standup couldn't kill a fly, and GSP has stuffed or gotten right back up from guys with wrestling at the level of Koscheck and Fitch. And let's be realistic, Shields isn't invincible on the ground either considering Mayhem was about 5 seconds from putting him to sleep if the bell didn't save him.
I'm saying GSP by TKO in round 3.

Does Jake Shields deserve all his hype? quite simply yes...and Hell Yes!
Is he on a 15 fight win streak being undeafeted since 2004? Yes!
Is he one of the top five welterweights in the world? Yes!
And of the top welterweights in the world isn't he the only one who hasn't already lost to GSP? YES...if you don't include Nick Diaz.
So he undoutedly deserves all of his hype, but his chances of actually winning the fight are another matter. This fight will come down to two things: Can Shields get GSP to the ground ,and is he better on the ground? In my opinon yes. Jake Shields has the better grappling credentials, and if you look atthe Dan Hardy fight you see that GSP has great takedowns, but dosen't show the same level of potional control the Jake Shields does! GSP may be bigger then Shields, but Shields has faced Okami at welterweigtht as well as, Miller ,Lawler, and Henderson at middleweight so I don't think GSP's size and strength will overwhelm him. Now GSP is light years better than Jake Shields in terms of stand-up in fact if GSP can keep the fight standing he wins period. I say if he can, because even though GSP said he knows what Shields want to do in the fight, take him down and control him, Everbody knows thats whats Shields does. It's what he always has done, but for the past six years no one has been able to do anything about it.
Thats the scariest thing about Jake Shields. Nobody has been able to stop him from doing what THEY KNOW HE WANTS TO DO, because he is just that good, and if GSP dosen't recognise that then Shields is good enough to beat him!Last edited by korean dragon; 4/15/2011 9:02am, .

Like most, my money is on GSP. However, I could definitely see GSP taking a loss soon, but not because the competition is better than him. Based on comments he's made, I think he's really starting to feel the pressure to make his fights exciting.
He hears all the talk about boring fights and he really wants to finish. I wouldn't be surprised to see him start deviating from his usual watertight gameplans and taking more risks. If he does, it won't be long before he takes a loss.

GSP has managed to make elite level grapplers look like spazzing noobs time and again. It's disgusting. So disgusting that I tried to hate him for a while. I couldn't make it stick, though, since he's usually very humble and down to earth in his interviews. He comes off as cocky every once in a while, but I think that's mostly because he isn't as proficient with English as he is with fighting.
