        hmmm

        possibly of interest

a Washington Post article with reference to Joel Kaplan. He sounds like he uses some unconventional and illegal strategies in his work.

        http://media.washingtonpost.com/wp-s...oena122498.htm

also, as someone queried this on another post Joel Kaplan from Action Investigative Services Va has the same email address as Joel Kaplan of Action Detective Services of Scottsdale, AZ

Just a quick note; there also seems to be a stripper / sex worker who uses the name mrjoel2u only with a different end to the email

This would appear to be an entirely different person so please do not harass her

                E-mail sent to church/Shelter:

                Dear Sir/Ma'am,

I am writing as a contributer to www.bullshido.net which a website dedicated to investigating fraud and abuse in the martial arts community. Currently, as you may or may not have heard, there has been a storm of discussion and news regarding an assault that took place in December, 1984 in Dumfries, Virginia.

The assault took place in a now defunct dojo. Recently a videotape has been posted on the net of the event. It highlights karate instructors Bobby J Blythe and and William J Dennis beating a man to near death. The video can be seen here, but please view with caution as it is disturbing and violent. There has been much speculation about this event, even in news reports (listed below). Our main intent right now is to try and identify and locate the victim if possible (it is not known, but suspected he survived the attack). A difficult, and possibly impossible task 25 years later.

I am writing to you because it is suspected that the victim (name yet unknown), may have been homeless at the time of the attack. One news report suggests he was living in the local woods and was known to the area. He had religious ideation and it is thought he may have been known to a particular church or shelter at the time. Can you help us in our efforts to identify this man? Or forward this information to those who may have been working with the homeless at the time?

A victim identification website and tip line has been set up here:

From a friend of a friend who has been leading me in great directions and been a huge asset into this investigation for me:

"If the beaten man had spent time in jail several times before the incident in question, as they report, then his personal information would be available and someone would know of his whereabouts. Who knows; this Feldman might just be trying to cover his ass. I've seen enough injustice firsthand by the Prince William County police department, especially during that era, to know never to trust anything they say, ever."

I know this basically rehashes what we know, but this is from a local instructor/student of the well-respected and well-known Roberts School.

                    Hi guys,

Yesterday I sent an e-mail to Josh White (reporter who wrote the Washington Post article)

This was his reply to me today:

"Thank you for taking the time to write, as I appreciate hearing from readers. I wrote this story because of the interesting element of a 25-year-old video resurfacing and causing a stir on the Internet, a phenomenon that has been happening more and more with today's technology; I did not write the story to solve the mystery. That said, I spoke to a well-respected veteran police officer who knew the people in question -- at the time it happened -- and who clearly remembers talking to the victim about the incident. The victim did not want to pursue an investigation. It ended there. I'm sure you can understand why a police officer doesn't remember the name of a vagrant who he crossed paths with two and a half decades ago.
I have not been able to identify the victim, nor has anyone else, to my knowledge. And no, it is not as easy as you speculate to identify someone from 25 years ago who may have been arrested for petty violations of the law. Absent a name, what would I be searching for? Prince William County has more than 300,000 residents, and records for 1984 are not easy to access. Without a name, how would you suggest I begin a search? Even with that, there is no evidence whatsoever that the victim was killed, other than wild speculation on the web. There was no body. There are no unexplained missing persons reports or cold case homicides from that year. No eyewitness has come forward to report that anyone died. Absent that evidence, this is an interesting 25-year-old assault. I would welcome any direction in finding the victim or witnesses who could speak to this.
                    Sincerely,
                    Josh White"

what is your criteria for a well respected veteran police officer?

the direction you should take is to start flipping through mug shots in dumfries and pwc.

I agree with that, if anyone can find a link to a site that will have them I will be more than glad to look through them. I have nothing to do tonight or tomorrow and will gladly look through all of them without a problem.

Please, let's not have everyone start e-mailing Ms. Caddigan.

Blink721 is on it and will report back.

                                I requested mugshots from http://74.125.93.132/search?q=cache:...&ct=clnk&gl=us

This is what I said "Is there anyway you can get me the mugshots from Dumfries Virginia from 1984? I was tasked with the job of identifying the man known as Kung Fu Guy from the online viral video of the brutal beating of what appears to be a mentally ill man. This beating took place in Dumfries on December 13th 1984. The man was curb stomped repeatedly and then dragged out of a Mr.Bobby Joe Blythe's dojo and thrown into a dumpster where the police say they pulled the man out and arrested him for crimes he did the previous day. The police told the media they remember that but do not remember his name. It is very important that the man is identified because it could help police put an end to this 25 year old act of violence. If you can do so or at least help in this investigation you can come onto Bullshido.net and join the investigation or email me or contact me with the mugshots. I, along with the entire martial arts community would be very grateful if you could do this. Thank you."
