Gene Simco Controversy: the pending court case

Sex crimes are ugly business for everyone involved. Whether there are just unsubstantiated allegations or video taped proof everyone walks away changed forever. As sickening as someone sexually assaulting another human being is, so is the thought that people level false allegations out of pettiness and spite for their own personal gains .

Yes, we all agree. It has been mentioned throughout this thread. That is the whole reason this thread has been culled and monitored heavily. Yes, I know once out there the damage is done.

Just so they don't get barraged again by phone calls, can we leave it to those actually planning to go to verify the 28th court date when the time comes? I'm just worried that people will start calling about now and continually asking "Is Simco up for the 28th?!?!?" and that kind of constant bugging, while not harassment, will certainly make the important people less cooperative.

Maybe the people going could also coordinate so that only one person is making a call to source x, while another calls source y, just so there are no crossed wires. If this is already being done, sorry for stating the obvious, but I just wanted to try and make sure the court house doesn't get irate from being questioned constantly.

I agree. Let;s not hassle the court clerk. She was cool to us and cooperative. Let's let the folks who have dealth with her already keep doing so and not add to the problem with un-needed calls.

Word. Gawd, I would hate for this to be some kinds of smear bullshit that turns out destroying an innocent man's livelihood. Man, I hope not...

These type of cases are a Catch-22; you have to believe (in terms of initiating an investigation) and protect the alleged victim while at the same time considering the defendant innocent unless and until proven guilty. Those are contradictory (but necessary) views.

I have to say that, from a personal standpoint, I don't feel good about this case. Something just doesn't feel right. OTOH, I don't personally know any of the parties involved and my personal view of the case, which I will not share, could be complete horse sh*t and totally inaccurate.

Not sure if anyone has seen this but there is a Pro-Simco website where he and/or his defenders address the charges and the motives behind them.

There is even mention of Samuel Browning on the site. Unfortunately they lump him in the same group(Cyber Vigilantes/Bullies) as those that they claim are making false accusations. Apparantly they did not read this thread or take notice of the fact that Sam was one of the guys calling for people to reserve judgment until the charges could be proven in a court of law.

I made ONE phone call to Simco's family, and that was because his dad is also named Eugene Simco. It was a polite conversation in which I asked whether Gene could comment on the allegations, he said he himself would not comment, Gene was out of town, and I provided him with my phone number.

I also e-mailed Gene's school e-mail TWICE asking for a statement, and I left one or two voice messages, on the SCHOOL phone number asking for him to get back to me. So this allegation that I harassed anyone and especially his relatives, is not true. The majority of my e-mails and calls were to his school address.

Unlike Phil M. over at Juijitsushare, I actually tried to get Gene's side of the story, and unlike the P.J. newspaper we printed Simco's press release/response in full and without editing.

It is true that Heather Simco did eventually respond to my e-mail, and she complained about a wiki on Bullshido.org that concerned Gene Simco. Our staff did not create this wiki entry. Nor do we have a standard approved format for discussing BJJ blackbelts. She's claiming that we have treated her husband unfairly by using a different format to discuss him, my response is we don't have a standard wiki format.

There were two factual points she contested which were reviewed and edited out from the entry. It is true that I did not get back to her after this was done. I'll do so when I finish working up some more questions.

There are other things I'm not discussing in detail right now. For example the e-mail that Heather sent me with dirt on the alleged victim which I have not reprinted here. I never requested the stuff she sent, and I never promised her confidentiality, and yet she sent such trash to someone they later say was harassing their family? It doesn't make sense, especially since this e-mail was sent AFTER the contacts I describe above. I'll disclose more about this particular e-mail, if Heather and Gene wish to argue this point.

Bullshido took heat , plus insults, trying to keep this as neutral as possible while, letting people discuss the issues. We removed most overtly abusive posts against Gene, as well as removing things concerning the alleged victim.

What's even funnier is, there alleged capacity to judge the human mind. Are they now psychiatrists or psychologists?

Absolutely. It would certainly look much respectable if they just stood by the credentials and reputation of Gene instead of making unsubstantiated allegations against those who are publicly inditing him, equivalent to those which they insist are untrue about Mr. Simco.

Perhaps they dislike the way this thread has been handled because of the fact that the mods weren't railing against any accusations of his guilt, but then again, he's the one in court right now.

I would seriously suggest Gene, his wife, his father, whoever, sit down and talk about the facts, because it sounds to me like their portrayal of this site is a product of miscommunication between each other. Maybe then they can edit that page to AT LEAST get the story straight about this forum, though as an outside observer from RI, I suggest they remove any accusations toward anyone else and just stand on Simco's student base and output of good practitioners. Everything there except for those things comes off as very petty.

its such a Catch-22 with these things: as soon as you assert something, especially a counter-accusation-it can make you look guilty/desperate. Or just part of a whole ugly turf-battle&rock throwing festivus.

Better IMO to just stand on character and stick to your lawyer's advise to remain silent on the issue.

At any rate, per a whois, Simco is listed as the owner, through Network Solutions in Virginia and the ownership on the domain is only for one year.
