Tifton, GA: Al Moore's Lionheart Martial Arts/Universal Fighting Systems

hey guys, I am fairly new to the boards. I think this is an excellent resource for finding out exactly what is on the up and up, and what is not. I never knew some of these places and instructors existed until I found this site. With that in mind the following information is being given on a 2nd hand basis. All of the information was given to me by someone I know who attends the school, and is currently questioning the things that are going on. I don't attend this particular school, and have never done so. But I just wanted to see what kind of "overhead" outlook I get without divulging any practices that I have been told about. I just want to see what the average MA sees from the outside.

My friend gave me the links to websites and such. Take a look, and feel free to comment on what kind of school you see, at first glance. Then I will go into more detail what I have been told about the school.

and here is a link I dug up with some use of google, of the schools first MMA fighter in training. I'm not an expert in MMA so I can't comment on any of these videos.

What kind of school is my friend dealing with? Credible?

    Thanks

Mr. Moore's credentials scream bullshido. Prior to 2003, when he became a 5th Degree in Kenpo, he has no Kenpo listed.
I can't be sure because I've never studied Modern Arnis, but to have an instructors cert before obtaining BB seems a little suspect.

Of course there is also the whole "Christian Values" thing, which always throws red flags up for me.
At least he doesn't have any pictures of 8 YO BBs in the phot gallery.

The "Christian Values" is a put off for me as well, but I'm a dirty godless heathen.
      The fool thinks himself immortal,
      If he hold back from battle;
But old age will grant him no truce,
      Even if spears spare him.

That website is a nightmare. What a joke of a school. Where is his Grappling Credentials? Oh he has none.

Based on the pictures in their gallery, they have no business teaching anyone grappling. Since I suck at re-sizing pictures, click on the link below to see what I mean:

What the hell is he trying to do in that picture?
Shut the hell up and train.

I think its worth noting that I was told that the kid in the video is training to fight his first real mma fight in like a month or something or so the myspace site says.

WTF? It looks like he's doing an crappling armbar but also hooking the leg for some reason. I shall dub this move The Shitastic Niinja Armbar!

Maybe he got a hold of an Eddie Bravo book and that is a picture of him fucking up the 'Spider Web' armbar....

Woah, this guy OBVIOUSLY knows his stuff. I mean, just check out the way his students perform armbars! Only a master grappler knows the secret of the thumb-pointing-downward armlock!

That armbar is t00 D34dLY for BJJ. That's why they teach the less effective thumb-pointing-upward armbar.

That's how the cool kids do it these days. I'm no grappler but I know how to do a correct arm bar.

I call immediate Bullshido on this school and will now provide lots of reasons:

                        1. Teachers qualifications are questionable at best, Mr. moore clearly earned a black belt in TKD in a reasonable time frame, however he earns a teaching cert. for modern arnis with no listed previous experience.

2.He has listed no boxing experience yet holds a boxing coach certification [which if you watch the video of his mma student, is also questionable]

3.earned a 2nd degree BB in american karate with no listed previous experience

4.FOUNDS the universal kenpo/jujitsu style with no listed experience in kenpo OR jujitsu and instantly promotes himself to 5th degree BB

5.The wife earns TKD blackbelt in two years of study, quits and then comes back nearly a decade later and earns her second degree bb in two years, what she didn't get rusty after all that time?

6.They offer a grappling class with no listed certifications or qualifications in this department and only once a week, while mentioning the ufc, pride and ifl, name checking anyone?

7.They claim their grappling class consists of traditional jujitsu [jjj], modern arnis, wrestling and "brazillian/submission ground fighting", yet once again, other then modern arnis he lists no qualifications in wrestling, jjj or bjj.

8.the fighter who appears in the MMA video fights like a tkd fighter, we've had a number of tkd guys transfer into our school and they all fight like that at first. The punches are crap, they are not getting their legs, hips and shoulders into it and wont do any damage, and worse is the kick, its a typical point sparring kick, he is not pivoting his front leg so he has no power or follow through and he's crossing his legs on the way down, nice easy take down would follow that.

someone should immediately initiate contact and seek explination of these points.

Well you can see that the guy being armbarred is tapping so it must work. Maybe he's a freak & his elbow bends the wrong way.

There is so much shite on their website that it would probably take months to wade through it all. There sure seems to be an awful lot of kids pics in the galleries, I wonder if their parents gave permission to have their kids pics & names all over the net. I'm not a paranoid person but I do know that when my son was young (he's 17 now) I'd be pissed if someone posted his pic, his name and where to find him. But I've seen a lot of m.a. schools do exactly the same.
