It's now gone from none to spoilt for choice now! - I will have alook at each school in turn, sadly I can only really stretch to one class a week, hence my caution in making sure that I've got it 'right' as it were.
Again, many thanks for the advice and observations.

In North America, the reverse is true. Most MA instructors do it for a living and charge MORE than $1000/year. The average in my town is $1340/year...stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

I WISH that it were as it is in the UK, here.

It's this kind of details that, sadly I think have been overlooked.

I'm glad I asked the questions though.

After all answers are usually a much better option than asumptions.

And Yes Askari - you have made some VERY valid points.

And despite the slight feeling of having egg in the facial area - this is all good info.

    Cheers.

Askari covers most of the main points, what is actually left for the instructor after overhead(rent, utilities, insurance). Unless the class is taught in a community center or something similar, the instructor is paying rent for 7 days a week, even if he is only teaching twice a week.

Another thing to consider is peopel have this wierd idea with pricing. If the price is much lower than the usual prices, many folks won't think it is worth while. If you charge more, it must be valuable. Perception makes a big difference.

From what I can gather - and please correct me if I have got the wrong idea here - most MA classes that are done by people, isn't their primary source of income.
That is, there's another job going in their lives which is the bread maker. MA is usually done due to their enjoyment of the subject and to add a bit more pocket money into their lives.

So - my question with this in mind...

How come MA classes that I've looked into seem to cost a noteable wad of cash for what they teach?

I won't 'name and shame' some I've come across - as currently I do not know of the 'going rate'.

One I'm looking at seems to ask a hell of a lot of cash -

    love to be proved wrong
