ATTN: Asia - pankration kick pics:

Hey, glad to see this place is up and running again. I remembered that I promised Asia some pictures I had of Greek art depicting pankration. He has a lot already but these particular pics depict kicks. One of them shows a guy with a sword kicking a centaur in the hip, I like that one. There are couple of knees in there too. Anyway, tripod won't let me post a link to the picture so here is a web page I set up with one collage of seven images.

Ah, so you're saying pankration was the greek method of fighting to defend against the opression of the centaurs?

      lol nice

Top left = similar to Wing Chun stomp kick

I liked the one with the guy with no head and one arm fighting the headless horse.

Damn, fighting a Centaur would be worse than fighting Asia! lol

Cool find I've seen some of these before but never really thought about it being evidence for Kicking techniques in Pankration

The centaurs were most likely, just the symbolic depiction of the invading Middle Eastern warriors, not a mythic half man half beast in a literal sense. That aside, dude, that center pic on the bottom row looks disgusting. It's as if the Greek warrior is "doing" the centaur doggie style. Just what were those Greeks thinking drawing that picture?.....(~_~)

The man's leg is the one on the top, the centaur's back legs are on the ground.

I was just saying that even in the artwork of the day there is evidence of low kicks and knees in Greek combat that predate Shaolin Kung Fu and Muay Thai. It just goes to show that there is nothing new under the sun.

I think the top third from the left looks a *lot* like WT/WC... Hell, he has a great Pak-Sau,knee,stomp,vertical fist going on.

There are other pics a lot like that that I have, these focus on kicks, I'll look for the punches and make another collage later.
