After reading all the posts in this thread, one question crept into my head: Why would a person with such high regard for his current teacher/system (and a decade of devotion to said institution) bother with acquiring the education materials of another? In my experiences with learning fighting styles, the only times I decided to seek another school or teacher involved severing my ties with the previous instructors. If I were wearing the OP's shoes, I might have had a passing interest in other sources of knowledge, reviewed the material and simply moved forward. Tough break with being disappointed, Zadar...get over it. Use what you know works and if you feel you are lacking techniques, seek out another source. Searching the interweb, this forum's archives, or *ahem* asking your current instructors may prove to be more useful than swallowing a line and opening your wallet.

The Defendo has changed considerably.
At one time they had a claim on their website that the Canadian army called it Defendo because Defendu sounded too foreign. That doesnt make sense. Canada has a large french speaking population so how can you say the word Defendu sounds foreign so the name had to be changed? Defendu sounds French, while Defendo sounds either spanish or Japanese.
Ive seen some of the Defendo tapes and nowhere on their striking tape did they demonstrate the edge of hand or chinjab which are Fairbairn's main strikes. All they had were boxing blows and knees and kicks that came from Thai Boxing. Nothing wrong with any of those blows except it doesnt match Fairbairns teachings.
So we have a history that doesnt add up and a system that doesnt look like anything Fairbairn ever taught.
Meanwhile Cestaris stuff looks exactly like Fairbairn taught.
So which one is Bullshido?

It looks like a younger version of him. I had to look at it through my photo editing program, & it looks like him. I think that the point is that it's billed as Bill Wolfe on the Defendo website. It does look like your standard "commando" dagger. It was really grainy though but looked damn near just like one of these:

Being a member of the militia is a proud thing, as is peacekeeping work, but how this relates to Fairbairn and Wolfe's claims I am not sure.
Edited to add: Oh I get it, its part of his advertising about being a bad ass:
The International Defendo Federation's Director of Training, Bill Wolfe, offers his unique expertise through his combined Police, military, and civilian self defense background unequaled anywhere else. Wolfe's extensive service as an ERT/SWAT team leader, VIP Close Protection Service Team Leader, Control Tactics Instructor, and Firearms Instructor together with his military service as a Regimental Sergeant Major, and Senior Unarmed Combat Instructor working with such units as the British SAS, U.S. Navy SEALs, Special Forces, Rangers, German GSG9, French Army Commandos, and the Israeli Defense Force in addition to his service as an Instructor for one of the world's most elite anti-terrorist teams, combined with more than 40 years of world wide self defense training and Hall of Fame nomination, gives Wolfe real world experience that speaks for itself. This hard-won real life training, including operational military service, and more than 1000 arrests as a former veteran city Police Officer, makes Bill Wolfe without question one of the most highly qualified individuals currently instructing CQB to professionals and civilians anywhere in the world.Last edited by Askari; 6/27/2007 5:31am, .

Reponse to Accusation
My name is Damian Ross and I feel I have to say something before things get out of hand.
Considering Mr. Pizzo and I are undergoing litigation, I can't comment on too much right now. Let's put it this way, when I was approached about the distribution of my and Carl's material it was supposed to be handled differently, which never happened. Lesson learned.
As far as the exaggerated marketing claims, well- that was someone else's deal and as I mentioned before, it's was supposed to be handled differently and that's over now. It lasted a whole 22 months. Now I have to do my best and distance myself from him and his organization.
Jim, I know you and if you have a problem with me, you can contact me, I can't belive I have to google my name, register for a forum and post a response. I don't have your number anymore or I just would have called you. And that goes for anyone else - I m a public person with a real school and a real business. I'm not impossible to find.
Rest assured, at the end of the day the people who need to know have 100% full disclosure.
When I get accused of taking advantage of Carl, I can't let that go. I'm not going to contact my lawyer or any of that nonsense- Jim, if you have a problem, I'l talk to you.
Thanks Bullshido for allowing me to respond.
Damian
