Dude's an alum of my school, he came to speak here a week or two ago, although I missed it. I have no clue about the book, I'm not interested in self-help stuff myself, but a guy who's done some mt and bjj said he did some light sparring or rolling with him when he visited for his talk and said he knew his stuff. I think he said he fought K-1 or some such?

Besides, the Ivy Gate blog's complaint seems to be focused solely on the Amazon.com book reviews, which look fishy, but which are not necessarily, and in fact doubtfully, connected to Ferriss himself. Most Amazon.com coordinated rating boosters are created by the publishers or whatever, not the authors - they just tell their flunkies to do it, without being asked to by the author. And I don't exactly trust IvyGate, anyways.

In addition to which, the comparison to Aleksey Vayner is unwarranted, unless IvyGate is going to make the claim that Ferriss hasn't done all the stuff he's claimed he's done. I wouldn't know, but it's not like he's done particularly unbelievable stuff compared to other people here, it's just that he's the only one who's written a book about it.

I'm sure I can dig up stuff as to his training during his time here, I think I train with and under some people who've trained with him, but it would help if you could give more specific questions as to his martial arts training, and say what and why specifically you're investigating. I don't want to go around stirring up trouble if there's no reason to.

Going after people for boosting their review rating for a book that has almost nothing to do with MA...fabulous Sam. Obviously this is the BEST POSSIBLE thing that you could be doing right now, going after someone who doesn't teach MA, and also knows what he's doing, for something so unbelievably stupid, it isn't even funny.

Sure, this is not a formal investigation. But since he is indicating that he has a competition background via his tape, I'm interested if others can confirm where he fought.

Timothy or Tim Ferriss does not show up in the standard databases.

1) Where did he fight, and if he holds any titles?

2) Does he have a particular rank in BJJ or another art?

3) What do people think his skill level is, professional, semi-pro, club/hobbiest(sp)

David Camarillo didn't say anything about Mr. Ferriss's martial arts skills, only that he had lived with the guy and that people should help him out.

I disagree with you using the word, "going after", I'm just trying to confirm whether Ivy Gate has a leg to stand on. Given that the last time we argued you spent all your time telling me to STFU, I don't particularly respect your opinion. But why not help by producing a reference to someplace he fought? Your google fu is probably better then mine.

My initial thoughts:

Japanese orgs prefer the ring to the cage. Off the top of my head right now, I can't think of an org that uses a cage.

Ferriss claims to vanquished 4 world champions in MMA. Which ones?

Sherdog does not list him.

The official K-1 Japanese site doesn't list him.

I will ask around to see if anyone's heard of him.

This is how he claims to have gained 34 pounds of muscle in four weeks. Its relevant because he provides his high school weight and a later weight this gives a rough idea of what weight class he may have fought at professionally. I am pretty surprised however that he would have gotten into muscle building AFTER he left competitive fighting.

Ok, but you realize that there are gyms that have cages and former champs that train at'em. He could've tapped out 4 former champions in sparring. That would be almost impossible to falsify, unless you speak Japanese or somebody at the gym speaks English, and you can find a phone #, and feel like spending hours on the phone to Japan.
